Warning this might offend both conservatives and half baked liberal. I was shocked and appalled when I found out Sony is going to discontinue Recordable blue ray media .Why? It is influenced by fascist politics .It is a part of corporations being not regulated and working against the serous consumer, serving the casual majority that can be easily manipulated cause they want somebody to do it for them. This side of consumer draw scammers. It about controlling consumers through streaming and renting only to increase their greedy profit . The entertainment media corporation is behind this too in controlling entertainment consumers. Like most deregulated corporations Sony is downsizing a needed product to increase their greedy profits for the moment so their CEO can have a momentary big pay check.like they did against the 3D t.v. generally by electronic product corpcatters. Those consumers who's minds are controlled by these fascist convincing that renting is better than owning,in the name of the environment ,certainly would see what I said as being wrong. They have been convinced that owning things isn't good. All this evil is caused by The rising evil , sneaky and conservatism.Anti choice Anti variety.

A needed product?

Bluray discs and CD-ROMs?

Does anyone even use them anymore?

Actually, I'm sad to see them go. Streaming doesn't get you the full experience that blu ray does. Current streaming on roku doesn't allow for the higher end audio formats like dolby true HD and DTS master audio. Best you can get is dolby digital surround, maybe dolby dts.

Blu ray has a higher but rate and transfer rate.

Plus, internet where I'm at is still freaking expensive. A 2GB down 60mb up connection here is still over $150 per month, by itself. Not sure how fast of a connection you'd need to support 4K/8K download along with dts master audio or dolby atmosphere, but I'm sure it's not cheap..

Blu-ray allowed for better sound and picture than you can get over most streaming services.

We buy Bluray recordings of some movies, due to the quality. CD Rom disks, I keep a small supply of blanks for data and files more handy on the move. I keep CD Roms of every CT Scan or MRI I have had since the turn of the century, for me and my wife. I keep those in our personally maintained medical files.

I'll take your word for that. I haven't found that to be the case.

Either way, I get by with a 250mb/s download speed on My provider on fiber and I'm happy with it.

Not really - "Not allowed to own anything" is basically the opposite of fascism. That would be communism.

So the title of your thread really should be, This is part of the rise of political communism, not being able to own anything.

(And even that doesn't make much sense, tbh)

As far as the rest of your theory goes, you'll still be able to own media, it will just be in digital formats, stored on media platforms and backed up by the "cloud". Depending on the platform, you may also be able to back up your media using flash drives, your smart phone, etc so you would still be in possession of a "hard copy".

. That's just technology advancing. If there was still a high-enough demand for Blue Rays, etc companies would still make them. The fact is there isn't enough demand and demand will continue to diminish as technology advances.

You're kidding, right? I have an $800 bluray player (HD movies) and an $8,000 CD player (CD music).
And I'm planning on buying a 4KUHD player.

An $8,000 CD player? That's impressive. How long ago did you buy it, out of curiosity?

I DJ'ed in my younger years and even the best DJ'ing equipment wasn't quite that expensive 30 years ago. (Although the studio level equipment may have been).

A 4KUHD player is something that would normally spark my interest - but how much longer will media be available for it? Unless it's purely digital - with digital storage?

Why should they give away something that cost a fortune in R&D and development? Buy it if you think you need it.

Guys getting confused about what capitalism does.

The capitalists don’t want you to own anything. You’re their serfs.

Well, I never pay full retail for anything, but I bought it off a guy in Canada who modified it to use better DACS chips, but if made today, adjusted for inflation, it would sell for around $8,000 now. It weighs about 45 pounds and has physically and electrically separate analog and digital sections built upon solid copper frame and beam construction.

In the 1990s, Lark Levinson made a two chassis $15,000 CD player.

I hope a long time considering that 4K TVs are fairly new and the market for 4K media is hopefully growing.
I'm a big advocate for OWNING my media (hardware or software) rather than just renting it (by subscription) or off the "cloud."

How long have you had them, and why would I be kidding about the fact that these technologies have become obsolete in the market?

How long have you had them,
What difference does it make? Why should I invest hugely in a new technology when the old one was fine and I am already hugely invested in it? Just to be a good CONSUMER?

and why would I be kidding about the fact that these technologies have become obsolete in the market?
Obsolete. Designed obsolescence. Serves the company making the new technology, does nothing for me, the end user.

I still play LPs. I guarantee you the LP still kicks the ass of anything else you have, RTR, 8T, cassette, CD, SACD, anything, if you have the technology to fully retrieve what is there.

As far as I've seen, none of the streaming services offer any of the higher quality audio formats, and trust me, there's a difference. The quality of audio from a Blu-ray is miles better than you get from streaming services. That's because most streaming services only offer limited sound formats.

Some movies you can watch is dolby digital the watch it in DTS Master Audio, and it's a night and day difference.

You're a purist aren't you? I used to read the forums and the people who would buy those high end CD players and listen to audio in the 2 channel pure direct mode to get closest to the producers sound as they could.

I bet it sounds great....

Don't see what this has to do with fascism.

Also, learn how to use periods and commas.
