The strength of California's economy is rooted primarily in its location, and its natural resources.

After that, it was the gold rush, and the first western cities to do business and shipping on the Pacific.


With the location of those cities, it subsequently drew critical industries to the coast. Those big tech industries don't have much to do with state government. I guess it could be argued many of them got seed money from DARPA, but the strength of the state economy has little to do with gruesome newsome.
