Trump Administration Orders Work Halted on Wind Farm That Is Nearly Built

At the same time as it thwarts the wind industry, the Trump administration has taken several steps to boost oil and gas as well as coal, the dirtiest and most expensive fossil fuel when it comes to burning it for electricity.

The Energy Department on Thursday extended an emergency order compelling a Michigan coal-burning power plant to stay open past its retirement date. The department has issued several orders to keep coal plants running past their planned closure dates, even in cases where the operators never sought an extension and ratepayers would shoulder the costs of complying.

“This administration has it exactly backward,” said Kit Kennedy, managing director for power at the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental group. “It’s trying to prop up clunky, polluting coal plants while doing all it can to halt the fastest-growing energy sources of the future — solar and wind power.”

The thread title applies to the trump government in many ways, but it's especially true when it comes to energy policy. It's one thing not to support progress and quite another to get in its way.

It’s also the case that, though the Trump administration is working to stymie the clean power business and some environmental groups are struggling, the economics of the energy transition have a momentum of their own.

This year, roughly half of all new generating capacity in the United States, some 33 gigawatts, is expected to come from solar energy. And while the growth of clean energy is slowing, it is still poised to be up 7 percent in the U.S. this year.

That growth is driven by the fact that, on balance, it is now cheaper and faster to build clean energy in the United States than it is to build new fossil fuel capacity, such as gas plants.

Economic reality has a way of transcending politics, and stupidity. However, if there are ways to shift the cost of building polluting fossil fuel plants in their favor I have no doubt the Energy Dept. will try to find it. Because it appears trump wants the regression of clean energy projects to be part of his already disastrous legacy.

Wind turbines are the most expensive and most destructive way to generate energy. Green energy cant meet the demand of AI and server banks and will create an energy shortage catastrophe. Thats why Trump is stopping all subsidies and building more nuclear LNG and fossil fuel sources.
Germany has 40% renewable and the most expensive energy in Europe. Manufacturing is leaving. Spain also has too much renewable energy and had nationwide blackout.

Energy outside of coal or oil is woke and commie and sent by Satan.

I thought everyone knew that.
I get the unshakable feeling this is one of those times Dotard is doubling down on idiocy out of spite. Just to be contrary, cuz he can. Like with tariffs. The more economists write about the destructive nature of tariffs the more he wants to impose their use on the country. Maybe if those warning about climate change told trump coal is excellent for the environment he'd support renewable energy.

Green/clean energy is exponentially dirtier and destroys soils, rivers, ecosystems, etc.
Of course it is. But it requires some critical thinking and analysis to understand that.

Democrats only want to point to electric cars and say "look, no exhaust," or to windmills and say "look, no diesel fuel!"

If the wind farm is "nearly built" that means that is it not built. So, if you want the coal burning plant to close before the windmill farm is built, where will the electricity come from until the windmill farm finallly starts producing?

We don't even have the transmission lines available for all this "clean" electric.

Funny thing was a major power line running through northern MN from ND all the way to Duluth was fought tooth and nail in the courts for 10 years by local tribes and environmentalists.

If it's pissing you off then it can't be backward.

It requires virtually no critical analysis to conclude you should be wearing one of these hats.

The administration is shutting it down in order to study the obvious national security concerns when building key power infrastructure in international waters.

Or are the national security concerns not obvious to you, berg80?

The acting director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Matthew Giacona, wrote in a letter to one of the developers, a Danish firm called Ørsted, that the government was halting work on the almost-finished project in order to "address concerns related to the protection of national security interests of the United States." The project is also being developed by Global Infrastructure Partners.

Yeah. A foreign company backed by a global equity firm was the previous administration's pick to get billions of our taxdollars and to be trusted with the safety of our infrastructure.

Energy production in the US is not in perfect balance. An energy producing plant doesn't necessarily close because another opens. These wind farms having construction halted means less additional power will be available in a country in need of more power production.

So, where would we get electricity to replace the coal plant you want to shut down? Even if the windmill were to be built, it makes sense to wait until it is up and running before shutting down a producing plant.

Or . . . do you want a shortage, so that electricity bills go up and you can blame Trump?

Are you playing dumb?

Fifteen miles off shore in international waters? What is the plan to protect it from the people on the terrorist watch list that came in under Biden?

Its all about money green energy gets trillions and kicks back to democrats. We get expensive energy

They interfere with coastal defense according to the Navy.
