"These guys are just weird. They talk about private schools. Where in the heck are you going to find a private school in a town of 400?"

ty

AND I THINK WHAT KAMALA HARRIS KNOWS IS BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER AROUND THE SHARED VALUES, STRONG PUBLIC SCHOOLS, STRONG LABOR UNIONS THAT CREATE THE MIDDLE CLASS, HEALTH CARE THAT'S AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE, THOSE ARE THE THINGS.

YOU LOOK WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT THEY WENT RIGHT TO DIVISION. THEY DID NOT GIVE US A PLAN ON HEALTH CARE.

DONALD TRUMP TALKED ABOUT INFRASTRUCTURE. JOE BIDEN AND KAMALA HARRIS BUILT BRIDGES, BUILT ROADS. SO I THINK THIS IS GOING BACK TO THE BREAD AND BUTTER, GETTING AWAY FROM THIS DIVISION.
Get it?

DONALD TRUMP TALKED ABOUT INFRASTRUCTURE. JOE BIDEN AND KAMALA HARRIS BUILT BRIDGES, BUILT ROADS.

THEY TALK ABOUT PRIVATE SCHOOLS. WHERE IN THE HECK ARE YOU GOING TO FIND A PRIVATE SCHOOL IN A TOWN OF 400.
I went to a private school that graduated maybe 15 in the senior class that was in the middle of farming country. All you need is a community of parents determined to give their students a decent education.

How large was the town/community? I've lived in a rural area.

The point being that a private school does not require a large population to be created and maintained, it only requires dedicated parents to make it happen.
Not sure what you're talking about in the context here. Did somebody say private schools needed large populations to be created and maintained?

So this is the where and when of the "Weird" meme. Great politician. More old school than what we mostly see today. I thought "Where did this guy come from?" as I've been out of the political stuff where I used to breath and sleep politics. Something bothered me and then I saw the Wikiepdia page "The Kerry campaign!" I worked/volunteered with the Vets people from the Senator's Office and his campaign. This guy will be on the road for the Harris campaign. He's a phenomenal speaker and advocate.

PEOPLE LIKE J.D. VANCE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SMALL TOWN AMERICA. MY TOWN HAD 400 PEOPLE INIT, 24 KIDS IN MY GRADUATING CLASS, 12 WERE COUSINS. AND HE GETS IT ALL WRONG. IT'S NOT ABOUT HATE. IT'S NOT ABOUT COLLAPSING IN. THE GOLDEN RULE THERE IS MIND YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS.

THEIR POLICIES ARE WHAT DESTROYED RURAL AMERICA. THEY DIVIDED US. THEY ARE IN OUR EXAM ROOMS, THEY'RE TELLING US WHAT BOOKS TO READ.

WE DO NOT LIKE WHAT HAS HAPPENED WHERE WE CAN'T EVEN GO TO THANKSGIVING DINNER WITH OUR UNCLE BECAUSE YOU END UP IN SOME WEIRD FIGHT THAT IS UNNECESSARY. AND I THINK BRINGING BACK PEOPLE TOGETHER -(INSERT LAUGH HERE)- WELL IT'S TRUE.

THESE GUYS ARE JUST WEIRD. THEY ARE RUNNING FOR HE-MAN WOMEN HATERS CLUB OR SOMETHING. THAT'S NOT WHAT PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN.

AND THERE IS ANGST. BECAUSE ROBBER BARONS LIKE J.D. VANCE AND DONALD TRUMP GUTTED THE MIDWEST. TOLD US ________ THEY TALK ABOUT PRIVATE SCHOOLS. WHERE IN THE HECK ARE YOU GOING TO FIND A PRIVATE SCHOOL IN A TOWN OF 400.

THOSE ARE PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THOSE ARE GREAT TEACHERS THAT ARE OUT THERE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO SUCCEED.

THAT ANGST THAT J.D. VANCE TALKS ABOUT IN "HILLBILLY ELEGY," NONE OF MY HILLBILLY COUSINS WENT TO YALE AND NONE OF THEM WENT ON TO BE VENTURE CAPITALISTS. IT'S NOT WHO PEOPLE REALLY ARE. THAT MESSAGE DOESN'T RESONATE.

YOU SAW IT YESTERDAY. THE ENERGY OUT HERE EXPLODED. WE ALL BROKE FUNDRAISING RECORDS. BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I LOOK AT. DOOR KNOCKS ARE FULL. PHONE BANKS ARE FULL. PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT WHAT'S POSSIBLE.

WE ARE FINALLY ON OFFENSE ABOUT AN AMERICA WHERE WE'RE ALL TOGETHER.

-- Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota

No need for private schools in towns of 400.
They’re all white.

Not sure what you're talking about in the context here. Did somebody say private schools needed large populations to be created and maintained?
You asked, "THESE GUYS ARE JUST WEIRD. THEY TALK ABOUT PRIVATE SCHOOLS. WHERE IN THE HECK ARE YOU GOING TO FIND A PRIVATE SCHOOL IN A TOWN OF 400?". Did you forget?

Do you know of any? Any non church schools?
Church schools are private schools. There was no restriction on that AFAIK. And yes, I attended one until the 10th grade that routinely graduated around 15 people every year. The point is that a private school needs only dedicated parents and teachers to exist.

Well, money to pay the teachers.

Are you also of the mistaken mind that a small town cannot have a private school?
I'm not your assistant. If you have a point to make, make it.

Then you can link us to the many, many private schools in towns of 400 people.

(Men's bathrooms at truck stops don't count)

Well that's comforting.

"the school doesn't exist. But that's your fault!"

Well, money to pay the teachers.
In my experience, there were about 300 people who donated money to the church, which subsidized the school. Parents also paid tuition to enroll their children. The teachers didn't get paid a whole lot, either, but everyone was determined to give the kids a good education and largely succeeded. Many who came in after attending the local government school saw their grades drop a level or two because the curriculum was rigorous. The school started I believe in the 1920's (don't quote me on that) in a one-room house, but by the time I came along in 1970, it had expanded into a comfortable sized campus with half a dozen or so rooms, a gym, ball field and running track. The bottom line is, determination and dedication are far more important than lavish funding.

I don't have to because the premise of the thread is that a small community can't have a private school, which is ludicrously false. I went to such a school for 10 years.

Well that's comforting.

"the school doesn't exist. But that's your fault!"
Nope, nobody said it couldn't be a parochial school. In fact, many of the best ones are just such, and they don't require a big community to exist. That is the point.
