“It’s official. As my colleague David Dayen and I both predicted, enough Democratic senators have voted for a crypto “regulation” bill (called the GENIUS Act), basically written by the industry and Donald Trump’s minions, that it passed easily on Monday. If anything, it was even worse than I expected—just nine Democrats were needed to get to the necessary 60 votes, but 16 voted for it. (Two Republicans, Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Jerry Moran of Kansas, voted against it.)
This vote was technically for cloture, meaning the bill couldn’t be halted by a filibuster…..

The GENIUS Act inched closer to passage this week ater a Democratic filibuster was ended in the Senate.
The GENIUS Act Stablecoin is a type of CBDC – central bank digital currency – which can be programmed in any way desired by the reigning regime, such as limiting types and amounts of purchases, or shutting off completely if an AI program, for example, has used facial recognition data and special street cameras to identify protesters on any issue.
The Trump administration is arguing that this type of power is necessary to fight money-laundering.
After Trump was elected last November, Trump promised in a speech to ban CBDC, and followed up once he took office by signing an executive order to that effect. But in what the Editor-in-Chief of Bitcoin Magazine Mark Goodwin called a “bait and switch,” the GENIUS Act being pushed by Trump includes the creation of a programmable digital “Stablecoin” which is ultimately controlled by the federal government and is linked to the FBI and the DOJ in real-time.
Mark Goodwin said:
“Stablecoins are the bait and switch for direct-issued government CBDCs”
“Stablecoins can be programed. Exactly like how we fear CBDCs will be programed. They’re exactly the same tokenized mechanism… They can be taken out of your wallet. Your wallet can be blacklisted. …they’ve actually onboarded the Secret Service and the FBI directly to their system… this is not freedom technology, this financial tool that people claim that it is. This is a control system.”
The GENIUS Act cannot be passed without Democrats in the Senate.
