"palestine"? there is no country named palestine ------"palestine" is an alternative name used by the romans ---some 2000 years ago as a designation for Israel/judea-----they based this name on the fact that the greeks -----at one time in ancient history------referred to the area as "palestina" based on the fact that aegeans had a temporary outpost in the eastern part of Canaan (like around ashkelon) and called themselves "PHILISTINES" -------they are no longer extant-----but the romans picked up the word PALESTINA for the area At one time ---in ancient history-----the place now called NABLUS -----was shechem-----a town of non jewish canaanites also no longer extant. (biblical history seems to suggest that just assimilated to become jews) The romans rebuilt that city and called it "NEOPOLIS" (new city) Arabs who invaded could not pronounce the word "NEOPOLIS" so it got corrupted into "nablus"
