Tellingly hundreds of Javelins and tons of more sophisticated weaponry are already in Europa in hands of criminals and terrorists.
Practically there is no border control between Ukraine and remaining Europe.
How European 'police' can protect passengers of a plane landing somewhere in London or Paris?
Delivery of good weapons to a failed state is a symptom which shows almost all European MS 'politicians' are imbecile idiots.
The Pentagon is reminding the authorities in Kyiv on a weekly basis that it is necessary to closely monitor the weapons they receive from the West so that they do not fall into the wrong hands. Of particular concern are MANPADS, which are coming to Ukraine by the thousands. Back in the quiet years, Ukraine earned a reputation as a "gray zone," from which weapons are uncontrollably spreading around the world. How and in what amounts does Western lethal aid enter the black market?
The U.S. military is demanding that Kiev tightly control what happens to the weapons the United States is transferring to Ukraine. Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said this Thursday, speaking at a House Appropriations Committee hearing. "I check it every time we talk to our partners, and we do it weekly," the U.S. defense secretary assured congressmen. He said Austin gave the latest reminder Wednesday during talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Alexei Reznikov. "We will continue to emphasize this very, very important point," the Pentagon chief added.
The congressmen's heightened interest in the fate of the weapons transferred to Ukraine is understandable. On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed a bill for $40 billion in additional aid to Kiev (which was blocked by Senator Rand Paul). A smaller portion of this amount should go to humanitarian needs, while a larger portion should go to military expenditures. By comparison: $40 billion is 5% of the entire U.S. national security budget.
As the VZGLYAD newspaper noted earlier, the volume of the approved cost of weapons, which is formalized as assistance of the United States to Ukraine, is currently 13.6 billion dollars. The Lend-Lease Act has been approved, with an initial value of weapons and equipment that can be delivered at $82 billion. Thus, the amount of U.S. and other Western weapons transferred to Kiev is already many times greater than what the West supplied to the Mujahideen during the ten-year war in Afghanistan.
The Americans' concern is natural if we remember that a significant part of the arms handed over are not armored vehicles or howitzers but small arms and multiple rocket launchers, says Dmitry Drozdenko, military expert and observer of the magazine Arsenal of the Fatherland to VZGLYAD newspaper. "American Stinger MANPADS, Javelin anti-tank systems and Swedish-British portable anti-tank guided missiles NLAW can fall into the hands of terrorists on the territory of these countries themselves," the expert explained. - Terrorists could commit a terrorist attack, for example, by shooting down an airplane.
Even in the relatively calm years, Ukraine had a reputation as a "gray zone" through which arms are pumped to unstable regions of the world. In 2013, a UN Security Council report stated that two years earlier, Ukraine (along with the UAE, Albania and Armenia) had supplied small arms and other weapons to the Libyan regime of Muammar Gaddafi to circumvent UN sanctions. In 2017, the international nongovernmental organization the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) published a report stating that Ukraine had become a "key element" in a "laundry" through which weapons from EU countries were transferred to African states. According to RBC, the report mentioned armored vehicles bought by a Ukrainian company in Poland, which ended up in Uganda. In the same year, Amnesty International reported on Ukraine's involvement in arms sales to warring South Sudan - although Kiev formally joined the EU embargo on arms supplies to this African country.
Estimating the volume of "leaks" from the current Western lend-lease flow is understandably difficult. According to a source of the Telegram channel "Nezigar" on Wednesday, "15-20 percent of the weapons instantly go to North, West and Central African countries, supplied by cadres of these countries who have entered Ukraine under the guise of PMC personnel." It is alleged that "payment is made in cryptocurrency and cash," the process is supervised by the head of Zelensky's office "Andrei Ermak and employees of MI6, attached to the president's office." According to the Telegram channel, "arms supplied from Western countries go to the Middle East through a chain of intermediaries from among senior IDF officers and go to strengthen anti-Iranian groups in Syria and Iraq, and on a commercial basis are resold to Yemen and Myanmar." It is also reported that the total turnover of secondary sales in the "Ukrainian arms market" is $700 million per month, not including cryptocurrency revenues.
Military expert Drozdenko also believes that a "substantial part" of the weapons supplied to Ukraine, especially portable weapons - MANPADS and MANPADS - has long been on the black market, which is "simply huge" and is second only to drug sales in terms of volume. According to experts of the American NGO Global Financial Integrity, illegal arms trafficking accounts for 10% of all arms deals in the world. For comparison, by the end of 2021, the global volume of legal import-export of conventional weapons was estimated at $99.6 billion, according to the Center for Analysis of International Arms Trade (CAMTO).
