Warren Buffett calls Trump’s tariffs a tax on goods, says ‘the Tooth Fairy doesn’t pay ‘em’

Legendary investor Warren Buffett made a rare comment on President Donald Trump’s tariffs, saying punitive duties could trigger inflation and hurt consumers.

“Tariffs are actually, we’ve had a lot of experience with them. They’re an act of war, to some degree,” said Buffett, whose conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway has large businesses in insurance, railroad, manufacturing, energy and retail. He made the remarks in an interview with CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell for a new documentary on the late publisher of the Washington Post, Katharine Graham.

“Over time, they are a tax on goods. I mean, the Tooth Fairy doesn’t pay ’em!” Buffett said with a laughter. “And then what? You always have to ask that question in economics. You always say, ‘And then what?’”

Leave it to Warren to cut through the BS in a folksy kind of way. He's not an overtly political guy. I suspect he'd have more to say about trump if he was. His simple expression making it clear what we have known for a while. trump does not understand the ramifications of tariffs on US consumers. Meaning the foundational thesis for his economic plan is based on ignorance.

Trump has a childish, naïve, 19th Century perception of tariffs – they don’t ‘bring back jobs,’ they don’t reduce costs, and they don’t intimidate exporting countries.

Are his economic advisers to cowed to tell him the truth or is he too stupid to listen?

One of those advisors is Dr. Peter Navarro, who has forgotten more about economics and tax policy than either of you ignoramus assclowns will ever know.

Wow, So we should consider all the countries charing the US tariffs not in balance with the tarriffs we charge them as an act of war?

The economic geniuses outside his administration we have seen over the years are not exactly nailing it. And his advisers are more loyal than the seep staters he had in his first term. The more you screw with him, perhaps he will get more spiteful towards you guys.

The tariffs are mostly a tool to strongarm countries for various things, as in getting both Canada and Mexico to do their part in tightening up the border. The invasion of illegals has a lot to do with Biden's high prices. Tariffs also bring more business to the US instead of having to rely on other countries in order to survive. This brings more business and jobs to the US, which grow our GDP and, therefore, our tax receipts. If our national debt/gdp ratio gets better, it will help decrease prices and so will drilling, baby, drilling.
