Board members may or may not know Johnson will not seat a recently elected Dem (special election in AZ) claiming it breaks with protocol to do so when the House is not in official session. However........

Senate Democrats clash with House Speaker Mike Johnson over government shutdown and Jeffrey Epstein

"We're happy that she got elected," he told the senators, noting that she was elected to the seat held by her late father, Rep. Raul Grijalva, who died in March.

"We have a long tradition here, and a process, of how we administer the oath to the member," Johnson added. "We're going to do that as soon as we get back to work. But we need the lights turned back on, so we encourage both of you to go open the government."

Earlier, before Johnson emerged from his office, Gallego told reporters: "I mean, again, he's already rejecting a duly-elected member of Congress. Now, can we really imagine him going one step forward and actually doing a compromise that's going to extend — at least to some period — the Affordable Health Care Act?"

"The line — everything keeps changing. Like it's every day, some new excuse why he won't sign, right? Look at the core. He knows that, that is the deciding signature on the discharge petition," Gallego added.

The Arizona senators also pointed to the fact that Florida GOP Reps. Randy Fine and Jimmy Patronis were sworn in while the House was out of session in April. Both were elected in special elections, like Grijalva.

Here's the thing. Grijalva has already stated she will sign the discharge petition calling for a vote to force the release of the Epstein file. Hers is the deciding 218th vote needed for the petition to pass.

However, there's a House rule stating until the 218 vote threshold has been reached, congressmen who have signed the petition can change their vote. They are not locked in. So until Grijalva is sworn in and casts her vote Johnson has time to pressure the four Repubs who are on board with passage to change their vote.

Moreover, if at all possible he wants to avoid a floor vote so Repubs not in support of the petition do not have to be on the official record as having opposed it. Cuz, you know, a majority of Repub voters are in favor of passing it. Maybe a larger majority now that the blonde sock puppet was asked about the existence of photographs reportedly showing trump with topless young women.

Oh my!!

Either they know what's there, or they're just afraid of what MIGHT be there. They know they can't take Trump's word for it.

I continue to wonder how the flock is not insulted.

Like trump, their thinking on any given issue has a amorphous, day to day quality. They adjust their beliefs as required by the moment. Then there's their ability to hold two conflicting beliefs simultaneously so.............

MAGA simps are not smart enough to be insulted.....at least not the hard core MAGA imbeciles on this board.

Grijalva cannot be sworn in because Johnson won't seat her until the House is in session, which is perfectly reasonable. Johnson won't bring the House in session while Democrats in the Senate have de-funded government with a demand that the House go into session and put 1.5 trillion in giveaways into what is not a clean CR.

Therefore ALL THE PEDOPHILES listed in the EPSTEIN FILES are being protected by Chuck Schumer's shutdown.

Why are the Democrats and "not Democrats" protecting pedophiles?

I think they just don't care. They are willing to accept anything from tRump and his cronies. I have no doubts they would offer their own children up as sacrifices if asked.

Yeah. And for me, this goes back to their motivations.

How desperate and lost does a person have to be to get to that point? And at this scale?

I underestimated the power of MAGA media to drive them to this point. This is consuming.

Open the files, I don't care if Bubba Clinton is in there up to his neck.

The entire Epstein crap is tiresome. Just tiresome, my guess is too many were involved and we'll never know that extent

Translation: The Speaker is kicking our ass, and we need to shut him down!

Yes, and Johnson explained that those guys had already brought in their family and friends to see the swearing in at enormous expense, and that the House had been expected to be in session.

Maybe you think that is a bullshit distinction, but it is a very typical tactic of the left, the famous "THAT's DIFFERENT" defense. Plus, she could be sworn in today, and sign the petition as soon as she says "I do," or whatever. But the petitition cannot be acted on until Johnson calls the House into session.

But suppose it is complete bullshit. Doesn't change the fact that Senator Schumer could easily take that excuse away simply by signing a clean CR. That he refuses, makes me wonder why protecting pedophiles is so important to Chuck Schumer.

We know he was VERY protective of the Epstein Files when he was Majority leader, refused to even talk about them. So it is fair to say this shutdown is a continuation of that.

What is Schumer hiding?

Let it go. The election was a while ago.
