The right wing in America has used the term Socialism as a scare tactic for decades, but it's not working anymore. The American economy has functioned with a mixture of Socialism and Capitalism for many years i.e the hundreds of billions in free money the American government pays out to corporate America as subsidies, grants and other corporate welfare goodies are a pure form of Socialism. One could also make the case that tax credits, automatic rollover defence contracts and Federal Deposit insurance are also forms of Socialism. Millennials now associate Socialism with Scandinavia, and not the old USSR.

America has cooled a little on capitalism. This is hardly surprising when you consider how the American form of Capitalism has failed ordinary Americans. The poorest men in the US have the same life expectancy as men in Sudan. Maternal mortality more than doubled between 1991 and 2014. The middle class has shrunk. People are desperate for an alternative to an increasingly dismal status quo.

Sorry Republicans - Your Socialism boogeyman is not scaring people anymore.

They used "socialist" for a long time, and finally realized that, not only did it no longer scare anybody, but it probably backfired and made many people more interesting in hearing about socialism. Too funny.

They stuck on Marxism for a time, and now they're pretty much stuck on "commie" and communism, like modern-day Archie Bunkers.

I've also seen them say that the devil himself is involved, and I very much wonder where they take it from here. I mean, where the hell (no pun intended) can they go from here?

Of course, all they're doing is scaring themselves and each other, as usual, while the rest of us smile and roll our eyes.

So what you are saying is that as America has become increasingly socialist, the American people have grown unhappy with the economy. I would agree!

I would also agree that capitalism is the one being blamed, as where the blame lies completely on socialism

And Scandinavia is not a socialist country. Socialism is government running industry, like you would have seen in the former USSR and Cuba and Venezuela and North Korea, not Europe. But once again, the capitalism of Scandinavia, or what is left of it, is why it is much more preferable to the actual socialist hell holes I just mentioned.

The populace has been indoctrinated for years that capitalism is unjust and the Founding Fathers were slave owners, thus the country and Constitution needs to go and be replaced by socialism thanks to a Left wing education system and a complicit media.

But the history of Marxism is never taught in terms of the death and destruction it has caused, murdering and oppressing millions more last century than any other ideology.

So with such vast ignorance, no wonder the term no longer scares them.

No one wants them scared. Simply informed.

But if you are informed about Marxism/socialism it SHOULD scare you like Nazism should scare you.

But most have no clue that Stalin murdered millions more than Hitler.

Not to mention the gross misapplication of capitalism by the ignorant Right, which has played completely into everything the Left is doing.

That's led to the inequities and fraud that has turned so many people away from capitalism.

The REAL socialists should be sending the Right Thank You cards.

Inequity and fraud is part of the human condition, even in Socialist countries.

So Mac would have us turn to socialism on the premise it reduces such inequity and injustice, but just tell that to a poor soul climbing on an inner tube in Cuba hoping the current takes them to Florida and freedom and hope. Or tell that to a poor soul who tried to escape the former USSR or North Korea without getting shot in the back.

What distinction do you draw between Marxism and socialism?

As for BLM, they claim to be Marxist but seem to support everything that is socialist.

Interestingly, China is Marxist but have turned to capitalism because they understand that it is a superior economic model. But at the end of the day, China still owns those companies even though they may not own them in name. It is the same model Hitler adopted as they called themselves National Socialists. Hitler was smart enough to know that letting the experts run industry was better than an idiot bureaucrat, which is why it was superior to the Stalin model. But the Nazi regime had strict control over pretty much everything else like health care.

So is the Nazi/China model the one you support?

Of course you are. Even Communists realize they need capitalism to survive. They simply remove it from the people and keep it for themselves.

Well if you are not willing to explore what these terms mean, how can you intelligently talk about them?

Or do you want to be like this socialist who first begins to talk as if she knows what the hell she is talking about, but when confronted with knowing what she is talking about, realizes she is an idiot.

I would have to say that the ignorance of those promoting socialism should not be surprising, because only an ignorant person or fool would.
