1. Whether personal beliefs, or what we call 'politics,' or perhaps 'religion,' the real idea that determines what we will do in any and every situation, is one simple idea. Either one believes that human lives are sacred, or one believes that they can be exchanged to achieve some secular material goal.

Choose a. or b.
a. From Schindler's List: “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.”
or
b. Trotsky: "We must rid ourselves once and for all of the Quaker-Papist babble about the sanctity of human life."

2. None of the totalitarian forms of political plague have the slightest concern for human life: not communism (gulags), not Nazism (concentration camps), not Liberalism (abortion), not Progressivism (eugenics), not socialism (theft), not fascism (murder).

They only differ in the final outcome: slavery, serfdom, or death.

3. All too often we miss that central point, that choice of belief above, when judging our heroes and celebrities.
Which brings me to our birthday boy today:

4. George Bernard Shaw, (born July 26, 1856, Dublin, Ireland—died November 2, 1950, Ayot St. Lawrence, Hertfordshire, England), Irish comic dramatist, literary critic, and socialist propagandist, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925.

5."In Britain, George Bernard Shaw supported Hitler in the mass media, showing an article entitled "Shaw Heaps Praise on the Dictators....Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin." The Left supported Hitler because they knew he would kill."

a. In fact, Eichmann testified that Zyklon B was a humane gas...the same words as Shaw.

Alas, there has never been a society that chose a. in all situations. Our nation began its life with a war where 1,000s died. And we fire-bombed cities in WWII knowing tens of thousands of innocents would perish. And we're one of the more ethical nations.

Attacking the messenger and ignoring the message? What did I say that was not 100% true? Or do facts not matter to you?

Suffer much from cognitive dissonance?

The lesson that adherents of every collectivist view.....Communists, Socialists, Fascists, Liberals, Progressives, Nazis....should incorporate is succinctly put in this quote from Jason Matthew's novel, "Red Sparrow:"

“Her father had suffered a massive stroke and had died on the way to Kremlyovka Clinic in Kuntsevo, reserved for citizens of privilege and wealth. He had been the most important person in her life, her guide, her protector, and now he was gone. She would have held his hand to her cheek, told him of her release from the ballet academy, of the treachery of her classmates. She would have asked him for advice, for him to tell her what she should do. She could not know it, but Vassily would have whispered to his idealistic daughter that one may fall in love with the State, but the State does not reciprocate, ever. "
“Red Sparrow,” by Jason Matthews
