This was a great movie. Its probably more appropriate today than it was in 1943.
Its about a lynch mob and the lack of habeas corpus in the old west.
The lybch mob catch 3 men that they think are murderers and rustlers.
There is a rudimentary enquiry on the prairies and then they hang them.
Wrongly as it happens.
Now that the US has relapsed into that era of justice its a salutary reminder of why we have trials and juries and evidence.

The state cannot take powers on itself to act as judge and jury. But they can take them if the population is weak and willing. Not able to stand up for its rights.
What happened in Ox Bow was being played out in real time in Nazi Germany.
Now its happening in the US where masked men act as judge and jury and imprison innocent people on a whisper.
Its a great film. Henry Fonda at his best.

I susspect that Netflix might remake it as a musical soon.

We Don't Need More Prisons; We Need More Morgues

Innocent men weren't lynched, even if sensationalist novels preach that they were.

Patriots shouldn't give the Fondas credit for anything.

They were innocent in this film. In the wider world they were often guilty of being black.

Yea that never happened in real life.

The primary themes of the movie are the dangers of mob mentality, the importance of due process, and the corrupting influence of strong leadership.

If you are on the left side of the political spectrum, you will see it's significance today. If you are on the right, it will probably go right over your head but you will probably still enjoy the movie.

Forgetting any political significance, the movie is a classic, well made and worth watching. Rotten Tomatoes gave a 92%
