They're moving to the upper class.

While the lower class increased by 3 percent, the upper class increased by 8 percent, thus the middle class declined by 5 percent.

"From 1971 to 2023, the share of Americans who live in lower income households increased from 27 percent to 30 percent, and the share in upper income households increased from 11 percent to 19 percent."

Losing 10 trillion dollars in wealth in less than 5 months is definitely hollowing out the middle class.

It's only shrunk 5 percent since 1971.
I provided data on this some time ago. The shift is dramatic, you and the rest of the West; are losing their Middle Class.

A nation MUST produce and manufacture. Unless Chinas manufacturing is forced to heel, the West is in trouble. Tariffs protect against slave and child labour. Why are Western adults forced to compete with slave labour from 3rd World Nations?

They should be more careful with their money.

We don't compete. We just blithely buy their stuff without any thought of the consequences. The American Dream is dying for lack of attention by Americans. American middle classers make everyone else's dream come true except their own. :(

The middle class hasn't lost $10T in wealth. What people theoretically lost this week is less than the penalty they would have paid for early withdrawal from the retirements unless they were in some risky funds.

The market will come roaring back, as it always does. If I were younger, I would dip my toes in. This kind of an opportunity has investors drooling.

I'm glad I don't have all my investments in the stock market.

I have invested about $80,000 in SS and have gotten back over $400,000, and it's still coming.

I may at some point beyond my 401K but I am waiting to see how companies pivot in the new landscape and whether or not they make it burdensome to invest in foreign companies (which I have seen alluded to but am not really sure the details). I like to reach around the US companies when I can as a way to decrease my exposure to the political schizophrenia. I used to invest in Canadian and Euro companies that trade on the US exchanges quite a bit, but don't have a firm enough grasp on the tariffs and counter tariffs and which companies are going to absorb them, etc. yet

Ummmmm......if you subtract 3% and subtract an additional 8%, it declined by 11%.

The 'decline' was an improvement for those that entered the upper class.
