They would be more appalled by the fascist rightThe Constitution never envisioned fixed goalpostsA liberal, is a liberal, is a liberal
A liberal looks at the challenges of their day and try to resolve them. Just because those challenges may change over time, doesn’t make them less liberal
Conservatives are consistent in that they resist change. Once liberals force them to change, they usually eventually accept it. Doesn’t make them liberal
That's called moving the goal posts. Liberals today want bigger more invasive government controlling everything. They want government to provide cradle to grave protections and provision. You claim the founders were liberal when they wanted small government, less taxes, less invasion, less control, more freedom then liberal means nothing what it once did.
Perhaps we need to change our words or adjust the definitions. Cause what you want the government to do and have power over would be abhorrent to the founders who you claim as liberals.
They realized that each generation would face different challenges. That is why liberals change over time
Liberals of the 18th century were perfectly fine with denying rights to women, blacks, native Americans, gays
Later generations of liberals were not. Doesn’t change the fact that our founders were the greatest liberals of their day
Nonsense, it's like saying a Democrat is a Democrat is a Democrat. So the the Dems of the south and slavery are the same as the Dems today. Right?
If you want to call them liberals then, you have to acknowledge they were nothing like the liberals today. Just throwing the word liberal out as if the liberals of all generations are the same is nonsense. The liberals of yesteryear would be appauled if they were tossed into the same as the ones today. They believed in small limited government with limited power.
Is a Democrat today just like a Democrat of 1860?
Of course not, they evolved over the last 150 years, just like liberals evolved
Our founding liberals would be proud of today’s liberals if they saw what a modern society was like. All a product of....All men are created equal
Our founding father's would be apalled by both parties to some extent, but particualrly the anti-Chrisitan left.
