it wasn't Republicans swinging the nightsticks, or the fists that injured him
It was southern Conservatives
Now you lie once again. Democrats were the ones who opposed desegregation, they were the ones who opposed removing slavery, they were the ones who ran the KKK group.
The 1960's South was strongly dominated by democrat majority, the same majority that resisted the SCOTUS desegregation decision of 10 years earlier, the same turds who resist the 1964 Civil rights act.
Actually there were THOUSANDS of northern Democrats who opposed segregation
There were also southern REPUBLICANS who supported Segregation laws
The common thread was SOUTHERN
It is true NORTHERN moderate democrats generally opposed Segregation as did the republicans (who never actively supported it), but it still existed as de jure segregation anyway. It was a lot worse in
democrat dominated (that is a fact!) SOUTH where it was still de facto segregation.
You forget that in the 1960's Democrats had strong majorities in the Congress, with democrat Presidents from 1960-1968.
You need to do some research on voting patterns, I did that a few years ago learned that Democrats had the power to end segregation for a long time, but didn't do shit until the SCOTUS decision came along that smashed that originally Democrat supported decision of 1896. It was created by democrat majority, it was ended by a democrat majority only after a great woman]s courage and the successful Montgomery Bus Boycott came along to show what an ugly system that was.
