The 2008 economic emergency crested on September 7, with the near collapse of the home mortgage industry.
Obama took office on January 20, 2009, more than four months after the meltdown. In that interim, the officials had finally restored financial confidence and plotted a course of economic recovery.
o matter. The Obama administration never stopped hyping the financial meltdown as if it had just occurred. That way, it rammed through Obamacare, massive deficit spending, and the vast expansion of the federal government. All that stymied economic growth and recovery for years.
In 2016, Donald Trump was declared Hitler-like and an existential threat to democracy.

hofstader's examples in "the paranoid style ..." extend from the "know nothings" to the birchers, right wing movements, but he clearly says that such hysteria is common on the left as well.

1n 1964 the greatest danger to democracy was the birchers koch and the bircher philosophy have been ascendant in the party since then. , but in 1964 they were . rightly, seen as a negative by the famously libertarian leaning goldwater campaign

the worst of the 2007 crash was in the final and lame duck days of the bush administration. both senators mccain and obama rushed from the campaign to vote YEA for the bail outs.

you may remem ber that thousands of us camped out for weeks to protest those bail outs without a single republican in support. iow as usual, democrats protesting against a democrat for "saving capitalism" from itself.

Really? So, the worldwide inflation had nothing to do with governments all around the world shutting down the world economy to fight Covid? None if it helped spur shortages and inflation? And all the governments around the world declaring war on fossil fuels also has not contributed significantly to further inflation and shortages? The fact that farmers in the Netherlands, for example, are told they can't grow as much food because there is carbon in fertilizers, as the UN projects a billion people to starve that year, has nothing to do with the world economy?
