As a white male Republican, I have been holding my tongue on the issue of racism for a while on this board. I will make an exception, today.
If someone is born in this country, they are an American. True, I see America as, for the most part, belonging to whites[Irish, Italian, Jewish, etc...] & blacks, being that we were the ones who built it up to what it is today- sorry to the Indians but ya should have fought harder! Still, if someone is born here AND THEY EMBRACE OUR DISTINCT AMERICAN CULTURE- yes, there IS an American culture- then they are every bit as American as this American, no matter WHAT their color or creed. Still, we need to control the borders for ALL Americans' sake. I suppose this is why I part ways with Bush on immigration. Yes, if we rounded up all illegals & deported them, the economy, at least in agriculture & other certain sectors, would take a huge blow, but we need to stop the flow before ALL parties are harmed. Also, I feel that illegals' contributions to our economy probably far outweigh the drag from certain members exploiting our social welfare state.
Unlike Republicans who, trying to be PC, say that they are only against illegal immigration because it's "breaking the law," I am willing to object to it on the basis that it is mutating the American culture. See, this is why we have a legal process which allows new additions to our country time to ASSIMILATE into our American culture, not to mention why we only allow a certain number of people from other countries to come during a certain time period.
btw- Being Irish-American[ I am a third generation American], I find it neat to eat potatos, drink far too much, & listen to NPR's "Thistle & Shamrock," but if Ireland waged war against us- please, suspend disbelief for a sec, ok?- as long as they got U2 & Enya out of there first, I say blow the fucker away!
My point? Even though I have Irish blood flowing through my veins, my heart has "Made in the USA" stamped on it. As long as all Americans- whether native or immigrant- feel the same, I consider them every bit as American & patriotic as I.....well, unless they're liberals.
Bottom Line- If you come here legally and wish to embrace our culture, then I will be the first to welcome you.
I would LOVE to trade good, honest foreigners who dream at night of coming here for the American-born ungrateful, traitorous, "blame America first" fuc&ing whiners. And before one of you liberals starts to spew Archie Bunker "love it or leave it" garbage, I am not talking about people who substantively disagree with certain policy decisions made by President Bush, I am talking about the hardcore America haters. If they truly hate this country so much, I am sure we can find some people from other lands who will GLADLY take their place, honor the flag, & embrace our values & culture. They, however, will be given a first-class ticket to Cuba or China. Don't let the door hit y......well, ya know the rest.
Now, for racists.
As for Jews/Israel, I won't even dignify the "Holocaust never happened, Jews control America, Jews drink the blood of Christian babies" crowd. Israel might not be perfect, but they are our ally, they are surrounded by enemies who are also OUR enemies, and they are on the frontlines of what might be heading to OUR shores. Plus............"Seinfeld!"
Yes, I admit that Jesse Jackson is every bit as racist as Jesse Helms. I admit that certain radical Hispanic groups & the NAACP are JUST as racist as the KKK or neo-Nazis. I also admit, what with Condy & Powell being called "house slaves," that liberals are the true racists and the Democratic Party is the new house of hate, but it seems we still have a few good ol' Helms boys left in OUR party.
Random Idea: Let's stick the black racists in North Dakota, the white racists in South Dakota and let them fight each other until the last one is dead. Then, we TRUE Americans can get on with reality & progress.
Anyway, I have a final solution for racists:
If I had one wish it would be that racists of ALL colors die painful & agonizing deaths from cancer, plague, and AIDS.......all at the same time.
They are a scourge on our politics, our nation, and, worse, humanity.
Personally, if my hero Newt doesn't run in 2008- after Bush's second term- I will cross my fingers & hope that I will have the privilege of working on the "Condy Rice for President-2008" campaign.
