As the colloquialism goes, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings. This is true of the 2016 primary race. Most of the chatter and speculation has been about which GOP candidate will run against Hillary Clinton. Indeed, the GOP candidate is not known at this time. What isn’t talked about much, is that the Democrat candidate is not certain either. Hillary Clinton is not a shoo-in.
Clinton seemed to think she’d get the nomination, that she’d payed her dues, it was her turn. The 2008 election ought to have taught her to avoid such presumption. Perhaps she’s beginning so see that. It might explain why she deigns to take questions from the hoi polloi now and then. Trouble is, she isn’t doing herself any favors in doing so. The other day, someone asked her about contributions she received from oil and gas interests. Clinton’s response was to complain that she is so sick of lies!
That’s not an answer. That’s whining. That’s not presidential. Do Democrat voters really want a kvetching victim to lead them?
Though Democrat voters may be loath to admit it, surely some of them have to have had enough of imperial presidents. Bernie Sanders may not truly be a man of the people but at least he doesn’t have his chin so high in the air he can’t look the people in the eye when he talks to them. Sanders may have some delusions of grandeur, but at least he doesn’t stop traffic to get a $600 haircut at Bergdorf Goodman.
When the crowds in Chicago booed her, Clinton was flabbergasted and certain that some sort of Right Wing conspiracy was behind it. Half empty venues didn’t clue her in to her lack of supporters, why would verbal expressions of disagreement? Meanwhile, Sanders yields the stage to caterwauling women of the BLM, not a Right Wing conspirator in sight.
Even long time Clinton supporters are starting to question whether she has anything to offer other than, Angry Grandma who Sits Down to Urinate. Yes, Clinton is angry. She’s angry because she has to work for this nomination.
Many voters are angry too. They aren’t turning out to align themselves with Clinton’s anger though. Sanders may not have anything new to say either, but instead of promenading within a rope held by armed men doing the queen wave, he’s doing the angry socialist spiel. The angry people who aren’t jumping on Trump’s anger wagon are going for the Bern.
This primary is not over by a long shot. The fat lady is still in her dressing room.
