Obama Executive Order on Abortion Funding Row 2, Seat 4

The White House just released this statement:

STATEMENT FROM COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR DAN PFEIFFER

Today, the President announced that he will be issuing an executive order after the passage of the health insurance reform law that will reaffirm its consistency with longstanding restrictions on the use of federal funds for abortion.

While the legislation as written maintains current law, the executive order provides additional safeguards to ensure that the status quo is upheld and enforced, and that the health care legislation’s restrictions against the public funding of abortions cannot be circumvented.

The President has said from the start that this health insurance reform should not be the forum to upset longstanding precedent. The health care legislation and this executive order are consistent with this principle.

The President is grateful for the tireless efforts of leaders on both sides of this issue to craft a consensus approach that allows the bill to move forward.

Yeah it's political cover for the Stupak group. The beauty of an EO is the President can walk it back on a whim. This thing will pass with 217 or 218 (+1 or maybe +2) so no democrat can be called the "deciding vote" come November and the rest of the blue dogs can pretend they were never for it. (dollars to donuts that will not save most of them)

The good news is the kick in the butt this will give to American's who cherish freedom.

The bad news is the level of HC, the inovation and new products of the free market and the lives of the hardest working American's are about to fall off a cliff. (hardest working American's = doctors... I did not mean that as a metaphor)


I'd get in line for your ration card very early tomorrow...

Public outrage is going to grow. The taxes kick in four years earlier than the benefits - something that any candidate who will work to undo ObamaCare can use as a campaign plank.
