Now, from the Great One (Beethoven) the famous second movement cantabile from the Pathetique Sonata. "Pathetique" in music means expressing emotions such as grief, pity, or sorrow. This elegant melody was written when Beethoven was 27, and is thought to have been intended to express the emotions of the young.

I think the nationalist composers of the 19th and early 20th century are probably the most accessible to today's musical ears.

Of those certainly Beethoven is probably the best known and loved.
