The unidentified man came away empty handed after going to claim his $1,098,674 Powerball winnings on Thursday.

Lottery officials believe he is the man shown on surveillance footage buying the ticket from a supermarket in a Los Angeles suburb.

But under Powerball rules they cannot pay out on a prize unless the ticket is presented.
