People voted for what they were told. New trade agreements were supposed to be in place, there would be no issues in Ireland and extra funding for the NHS. It was all lies. No one made a ‘choice’ to crash-out of the EU absent an agreement and a plan.

During the first 250 years of the East India company, the were a strictly a trading entity. The company army provided protection for company assets and company functionaries. The East India later controlled territories with the agreement and cooperation of local rulers (much to the benefit of the local rulers).

It wasn't until the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 that England took over territories of the empire. They traded cooperative administration of local rulers and the company for the British Army and an endless parade of commissioners, mandarins, apparatchiks, babus, and clerks that divided up the spoils to enrich the British Crown.
