Assuming two things: one is the universe has a nucleus, and two that its original weight is still intact with its gravity field, then wouldn't a great cooling down of the universe cause the nucleus to become energy absorbent and each atomic particle turn back into its original state as well as expand outwardly? but the difference travels along infinity so we don't even get effected by it.
