Zone1 The Best Evidence For The Resurrection

Insufficient evidence. The Bible has lots of people coming back from the dead but I've never seen it nor has anyone else I know.
  • Witnesses from Biblical times are not living today.
  • Today, there are plenty of known near death experiences.
  • At least one successful and well-known defense attorney took years going over Biblical testimony and reached the conclusion it was true. He had been an atheist, but this changed his mind.
  • The recent data from the Shroud of Turin supports both the crucifixion and the resurrection.
  • Living the Way Christ taught brings verification of the truth in what he taught (personal verification).

  • So their testimony is worthless
  • "Near" death, not the same thing
  • At least one Biblical scholar took years going over Biblical testimony and reached a different conclusion. He read the Bible in it's original languages, did the lawyer do the same?
  • It is accepted that Jesus was crucified but the evidence for the resurrection is very weak
  • Living the way the Buddha taught brings verification of the truth in what he taught (personal verification).

Anytime anyone returns to life is classified as "near death" no matter how long they were thought dead.

The difference between the Biblical scholar(s) and the attorney, is that he was looking at the testimony. I did not expect you to believe him any more than you believe the Bible. He is simply a person who was convinced despite his convictions.

Again, check the Shroud of Turin for possible signs of the resurrection--in addition to the testimony given at the time.

This discussion isn't about doubting Buddha--or Mohammad for that matter. We're speaking of your doubt of Jesus. You don't know what, if anything, I doubt about Buddha or Mohammad. It's probably much less than you might think.

The Jesus myth is based on the classic hero story that has been told many timers before the time of Jesus. All they did was add Jesus to this old myth and created religion. IN other words its all BS.

Joseph Campbell’s "hero story" (often called the monomyth or the Hero's Journey) is a universal narrative pattern found across world mythologies and religions. It describes the archetypal journey of a hero who leaves the ordinary world, faces a series of trials in a supernatural realm, achieves a decisive victory, and returns transformed to benefit their fellow man.

Campbell first introduced this concept in his classic 1949 book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces. He summarized the monomyth into 17 key stages, which are broadly broken down into three core phases:

1. Departure (Separation)
The hero is called to adventure but is often initially reluctant. After crossing the threshold from the known to the unknown world, they receive supernatural aid or meet a mentor to guide them on their quest.

2. Initiation
The hero enters the "special world" where they must face a series of trials, confront their greatest fears, and undergo a crisis or symbolic death. Surviving this allows the hero to achieve their ultimate goal, gaining a reward or new profound power.

3. Return
The hero must bring their newly acquired knowledge, treasure, or boon back to the ordinary world to share with humanity. By crossing the return threshold, the hero becomes a master of both the everyday and supernatural worlds.

Cultural Impact
Campbell’s structural theory heavily influenced modern storytelling. Most notably, George Lucas actively used the Hero's Journey as the narrative blueprint for the Star Wars saga. Campbell's philosophical outlook and exploration of this mythology are deeply captured in his famous motto: "Follow your bliss".

Any biography, even George Washington and Abraham Lincoln can be turned into a myth or even use the notes Campbell described to organize the biography. Such organization does not turn the biographies into myths.

The myth came before Jesus. They just inserted his name. Changed the meaning of Genesis. Invented original sin and the rest is history but its all just made up

Believe as you will. I've done the research and lived the life. I often wonder how many enter of you enter Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist threads, etc. with the know-it-all attitude that you adopt in Christian threads.

I just stated the facts. There is no Hindu or Buddhist thread. Their concept of God is far more advanced than yours.

So was resurrected or was always alive, just near death?

Again, check the Shroud of Turin for possible signs of the resurrection--in addition to the testimony given at the time.
Interesting but hardly conclusive. Serious chain of custody issues. Was the shroud even the one that wrapped Jesus?

I don't doubt he lived, I do doubt he was God.

The Shroud of Turin is a fake from the 13th century.
You're most probably right but...

Arguments Challenging the 13th-Century Date
  • Sample Contamination: Some researchers argue the 1988 samples were taken from a repaired section of the cloth containing younger cotton fibers, which could have skewed the results.
  • Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS): A 2022 study used WAXS to suggest the structural degradation of the linen is compatible with fabric from roughly 2,000 years ago, though researchers noted further testing is required to confirm this.
  • Unique Image Properties: Proponents of authenticity note that the image has photographic negative properties and 3D spatial information that were unknown in the 14th century and remain difficult to replicate today. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Yes, it is the scholarly consensus is that Jesus did live. Why would you (and others) not want him to be God? I do understand the Jewish perspective that God, being infinite, cannot be human and their great care not to worship an idol. There is still the question that if God can present himself as a burning bush, why brush aside God presenting himself as human.

But I am more curious about the simpler question, which perhaps can be discussed by non-believers completing this sentence: I don't want Jesus to be God because ______________ . What is it to a non-believer whether or not Jesus is divine?
