Conservatives can only keep power by vote suppression, gerrymandering and other forms of Stalinist thuggery. However, there are limits to what that can do. Conservatives need to make elections close enough to steal, and they're losing the numbers necessary to do that. Their old corrupt voters are dying off, and not being replaced. Then add to that the fact that people tend to grow more liberal as they age.
