In case you missed it, Morris, founder of Dallas-Fort Worth megachurch Gateway Church and a former spiritual adviser to Donald Trump, fell fast and fell hard when Oklahoma realtor Cindy Clemishire revealed Morris had groomed and molested her for four years in the early 1980s, starting when she was 12 years old. For four decades, Morris insisted that at that time, he had gone through “moral failure” with “a young lady” at that time. However, the deceit finally caught up with him when Cindy finally found someone to listen to her last summer. Within a week, Morris was forced to resign in disgrace. This spring, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond won an indictment against Morris after a months-long investigation unearthed enough evidence to charge him with five counts of child sexual abuse. Morris pleaded guilty on Thursday and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but all but six months will be suspended; he will spend the rest of that time on probation and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. That sentence may look lenient, but the plea ties Morris’s hands in a civil suit Cindy filed against him.
