I do not think Conservatives really realize how bad things are.....certainly not the Republicans in Congress.
Is it possible to somehow turn things around? Possible but the odds are against it. If the Republicans can somehow prevent the democrats from cheating during the mid term elections and win control of the house and the Senate...then the possibility of turning things around are much better.
Somehow the Republicans must reach the Americans at the grass root level and get them involved like never before....it is really up to the people do they want to save America or let it fall further down into the leftist hell hole?
If Republican's want to reach people, they need to recognize a few realities.
The "Culture War" is effectively a non-starter, it's over. Culture changes, and we are far from the days of the Cleavers in Leave it to Beaver. You can't put that genii back in the bottle, nor would we want to. What was a "good time" for some Americans was not for others.
The value of marriage...the decline in marriage rates. What should Republicans do there? Anything? In recognizing that marriage is often a stabilizing factor in human societies, married couples tend to build more wealth, invest in the future a bit more - maybe Republicans need to drop the idea that marriage can only be between a man and a woman. The majority of Americans, particularly among young people, support same sex marriage. The Republicans need to get behind this and move on (if they can't get behind it, at least remove opposition to it).
Demographics. That actually has the potential to favor Republicans if they can drop the cultural baggage. There are a lot of people that would potentially embrace the Republican Party on a number of core values: patriotism (real patriotism, not the fake crap that passes for it on the right now); fiscal responsibility; essential freedoms and liberty. Ironically in the tangle of "culture wars" and demographic groups...there is fruit for the picking. Many Latin American immigrants are culturally conservative, but turned off by the politics of anti-immigration and the demonizing of immigrants from Latin America (yes, you can claim it's only about illegal immigrants, but it spills over into an overall anti-immigrant stance towards Latin America, Africa and other non-European countries with the idea they are poor trash of shit hole countries). Many African Americans are among the more religious and traditional in values. If Republicans shed the "black thug" mentality and the idea that successful blacks only got there by Affirmative Action...and reached out, they could probably attract more. Muslims, similarly, tend to be very conservative...yet are turned away by the Republican politics demonizing an entire religion. Many immigrants come here with a strong work ethic, start small businesses, and become contributing members of society. They come from countries where they did not have those opportunities. With so many small business owners among them, you would think they would be a perfect target for the GoP, but if anything the GoP has made a sharp turn away under Trump.
The Republicans have turned themselves into the party of nativism and nationalism...disconnected from the larger culture of it's nation. It's driven many from it's party to call themselves independents....and it's driven many towards the Democrats because they don't see any alternative. Yet there are many Americans, I'm sure, beyond the minority base - who could support the Republicans if they reached out...and recognized what people want.
There is a reason why one of their lawyers admitted that the only way they can win now is by suppressing the vote. They can't win on ideas.
