Texas infant mortality rose nearly 13 percent after six-week abortion ban

Get your head out of other women's womb.

I don't get men, any men, telling women what they can do with their own bodies.

Try minding your own ******* business.
It's not just her body, she has another body in her womb, that should be afforded rights too. Even today, if a woman who has been pregnant for six months, or seven months, is murdered, the murderer is charged with double homicide. I agree with the pro-life position, however, where I often find myself at odds with conservatives, is when they show complete disregard for the pregnant woman's needs (financial, medical..etc) by doing everything they can to defund government programs that help single mothers raise their children. They cut food stamps, rental assistance, Medicaid, job training, child daycare vouchers, school lunch programs, after-school programs..etc. That's not pro-life.

We can't force women to remain pregnant through a government mandate, and then shrug our shoulders when that pregnant woman, loses her job due to her pregnancy and she's unable to pay her bills. We pro-lifers, can't just be the champions of unborn babies, we also have to champion and support programs that assist single mothers, in every way possible, helping them raise those children that we forced them to give birth to. We can't have our cake and eat it too. If we're truly "pro-life", then we have to be pro-life not just for prenatal human life, but for all human life, both in the womb and outside of it. We need to support single moms and not abandon them. and their babies.

Let's just call a spade a spade, the GOP is not 'pro life'. It is the party of death and stupidity.
Bingo. Plus, don't forget how they like telling women what to do.

wo years after the Dobbs decision, a study by JAMA Pediatrics reveals the impact of Texas' stringent abortion laws. Senate Bill 8, banning abortions after six weeks, became nearly absolute post-Dobbs. The study shows a 12.9% increase in Texas' infant mortality rate from 2021-2022, compared to just 1.8% nationally. This suggests a negative link between abortion restrictions and infant health. The study highlights a 255 increase in infant deaths in Texas, with a 22.9% rise in congenital abnormality deaths, contrasting with a 3% decrease nationally. The findings raise concerns about the health consequences of similar abortion bans across states.

Two years after the Supreme Court overturned federal abortion protections with the Dobbs decision, a new study shows the deadly aftermath of Texas' restrictive abortion laws.

Texas' ban on abortions over six weeks of gestation, known as Senate Bill 8, went into effect in 2021 and became a near-total ban after the Dobbs decision in 2022. In that period, however, the study conducted by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics found that the infant mortality rate in Texas rose 12.9 percent between 2021 and 2022 compared to just 1.8 percent across the rest of the United States. The study concludes that the state's stringent abortion restrictions may have a negative spillover effect on infant health, raising the question as to whether states with similar bans post-Dobbs may see similar results in the coming years. Notably, the study does not include health impacts since Texas outlawed elective abortions, only the period under the six-week ban

Between 2021 and 2022, recorded infant deaths in Texas increased from 1,985 to 2,240, or 255 additional deaths. Of those infant deaths, deaths due to congenital abnormalities rose 22.9 percent in Texas compared to a 3 percent decrease in the rest of the country.
Biden's pregnant illegals.

Pregnant illegals.

In Texas in 2021, 1,977 infants died before reaching their first birthday, an infant mortality rate of 5.3 per 1,000 live births. In Texas in 2022, 69.7% of infants were born to women receiving adequate/adequate plus prenatal care.

Boy, you're dumb. It's murder when the woman has no choice.

Japan makes our infant and maternal deaths look barbaric.

These things happen when pregnant women from shitholes want anchor babies born in the US.

I think you just suck at math.

I don't think Japan has anchor babies.

Neither does Georgia.

The infant mortality rate for Georgia in 2021 was 8.498 deaths per 1000 live births, a 3.31% decline from 2020.

So, either way the offspring is dead. Thanks.

Mississippi's infant mortality rate (IMR) in 2021 was 9.3 per 1,000 live births, which is almost double the national average of 5.44. This is up from 2020, when the rate was 8.12 per 1,000, and is the highest rate in the country.

The IMR for Black infants in Mississippi also increased from 2020 to 2021, from 11.9 to 12.6 deaths per 1,000 live births, and Black infants are nearly twice as likely to die as white infants in the state.

How the **** do you know? You keep pulling shit out of your corpulent ass.

The issue is in the hands of each states voters. Therefore, all sides win. What more do people want? Got rid of Roe. That's still not enough? Please explain. What will make people happy?

Care to elaborate on the bolded part? What have they done to do what you claimed, specifically?

And often the mother’s life is on jeopardy in those cases (but meh… who cares right?)

Not to mention the tens of thousands of kids born to parents that don’t want them and or can’t properly care for them

All I'm saying is that if one cares about babies in the womb, then one must also care about babies outside the womb, who are often being raised by a single mother, who needs social services. Too many pro-life conservatives fight against abortion, while refusing to help impoverished single mothers raise their children. These conservatives will vote for politicians that defund government programs and assistance for the poor, including single mothers.

You keep saying 'they' refuse to help single mothers, without any context or proof of your claim. I asked about specifics for the claim you are making, and you don't have any? How can you make that statement so casually if you have nothing on which to base it?

There are several instances where right-wing conservative Republicans have defunded or proposed cuts to government programs that help the poor. For example:
  1. Housing First Program in Utah: Utah's Housing First program, which successfully reduced homelessness, faced criticism and funding cuts from conservative lawmakers who argued that such programs foster dependency.
  2. Medicaid: Republican efforts have included proposals to tighten Medicaid eligibility. Some red Republican-led states have introduced disability requirements and other restrictions, making it harder for poor individuals to qualify.
  3. School Lunch Programs: Republican budget proposals have included significant cuts to school lunch programs. In 2017, the Trump administration proposed a budget that would reduce funding for these programs, arguing for more "local control."
  4. Childcare for Single Mothers: Republicans have also targeted funding for childcare assistance programs. For instance, proposed budgets have suggested cuts to the Child Care and Development Block Grant, which helps low-income families afford childcare.
Conservative States:
  • Kansas: Kansas has stricter asset limits for food assistance compared to Democrat-led blue states. Most blue states have adopted broad-based categorical eligibility to allow families with higher assets to qualify for food assistance, but Kansas has not, making it harder for. This policy particularly impacts single mothers and the elderly. (KCUR).
  • Alabama: Alabama opted out of the federal Summer Food Service Program, which provides food assistance to low-income children during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. This decision affected approximately 545,000 eligible children, leaving many families without the additional support needed during the summer (Southern Poverty Law Center).
  • Georgia, Florida, Texas:... These conservative states and others as well, have tied Medicaid eligibility to disability. Being poor isn't enough to qualify.
  • Louisiana: Louisiana rejected federal aid for the Summer EBT program, which would have provided $71 million to help feed about 594,000 children during the summer. This decision left many families struggling to afford food during the months when children are not receiving school meals (Southern Poverty Law Center).
There are many other examples like these. Right-wing conservatives love to defund government social programs, that help the poor, under the pretext of saving public funds for other projects, or "tough love" for the poor. These same Republican conservative lawmakers are the first ones to vote against abortion rights, under the guise of "saving babies", while not giving a hoot about babies outside of the womb and their single impoverished mothers who are trying to raise them. That's hypocrisy.

Don't force women to give birth if you're not committed to helping them raise their children with the adequate resources that they need. To do otherwise increases the chances for this to happen:

None of the above is "pro-life", it's pro-death and societal chaos. If you're going to use the heavy hand of government to force women to remain pregnant then you should also make sure those women have the means to properly raise those children you're bringing into the world, or else you're not really "pro-life".
