Tennessee officials will pay $835,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a man who was jailed for more than a month over a Facebook post he made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

I saw this story about 4 hours ago and still have mixed feelings about it. On one hand I find posting of the meme's revolting. On the other being jailed for them is taking things too far.

The meme Bushart posted that prompted his arrest read: “This seems relevant today...” and featured President Donald Trump and the words, “We have to get over it.” That quote, the meme explained, was said by Trump in 2024 after a school shooting at Iowa’s Perry High School.

I wonder if our "free speech" conservatives will applaud the decision?

It's one of those things where I'd have to get a fuller awareness to take any side. Although taking a view all to myself is something I'm comfortable with.

There was a woman from some small town in Texas who was arrested last week for her Facebook post on the city water, it was a brown sludge coming out of her tap, the police chief had her arrested for this for "inducing panic" and spreading "false information". She started a FB group concerning this problem.

She spent one night in jail, her payday won't be nearly as big as this guys.
