Ted Cruz Calls Planned Parenthood Shooter 'Transgendered Leftist Activist'

Cruz took issue with the “vicious rhetoric on the left blaming those who are pro-life.”

NEWTON, Iowa -- Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) downplayed the role anti-abortion rhetoric may have played in the fatal shooting of three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado and suggested the suspect was a “transgendered leftist activist" at a campaign stop in Iowa on Sunday.

Speaking with reporters following the event, Cruz rejected suggestions that the shooter was part of the anti-abortion movement, taking issue with the “vicious rhetoric on the left blaming those who are pro-life.”

Robert Lewis Dear, 57, was taken into custody Friday night after allegedly opening fire inside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, killing three and injuring nine others.

When a reporter reminded the Texas senator that the suspect allegedly made a comment about “baby parts” while being arrested, Cruz countered, “It’s also been reported that he was registered as an independent and a woman and transgendered leftist activist, if that’s what he is.”

Dear’s voter registration, where he is listed as a woman, was uncovered by the Gateway Pundit, a self-described "right-of-center news website."

“We know that he was a man who was registered to vote as a woman,” Cruz said. “The media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life moment when at this point there is very little evidence to suggest that.”

Asked if the shooting was an act of domestic terrorism, Cruz declined to draw conclusions.

Transgendered leftist activist? Stay classy, Ted, stay classy. Well, Robert Dear sure grows a nice beard for a transgendered person.

Baby parts.......

Say baby parts and you're a terrorist.

Sorry to read the article, but it clearly states that Cruz said, "it has been reported that dear was registered as an independent, a woman, and a transgendered activist.." So Cruz never called the guy a transgendered activist. This is how the left works. They create a lie and then use it as a battering ram hoping to repeat it often enough to make it seem like the truth. Character assassination 101, just the stuff the American people are so tired of. I guess usmb is just the minor league for democratic speechwriting wannabes, and lord we are overrun with em.

Cruz would destroy Obama. The left has to demonize the Texas senator to diminish the chance that Hilary or Obama will have to deal with him. Hilary would have to call 911 to staunch all the bleeding if she went up against Cruz. Even msnbc plus Debbie poodle hair wasserman Schulz as moderators would not slow down this debating juggernaut. He's scary alright to leftists, but not because of his Bella Lugosi looks.

It’s a Giant Fcking Mystery Wrapped Inside A Riddle Inside an Enigma
Give me a break:

The shooter who killed three and injured several others at the site of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs remains something of an enigma, and while both sides of the political aisle have chimed in about the shooting it isn’t clear at all that he was particularly or specifically motivated by politics to commit his crimes:

If a Muslim man shot up a synagogue and told the cops “No more Jews,” would his motives be enigmatic?

If a black man shot a cop and said “fuck the police” while being arrested, would we have to wait to figure out his motivations?

But if a crazy loner gun nut shoots a bunch of people in front of a planned parenthood, carrying explosive devices with him, and states “No more baby parts,” which JUST SO FUCKING HAPPENS to be rhetoric tossed around by right to lifers the past few months, and it’s a GIANT FUCKING RIDDLE what his motivations might have been. It’s a real fucking whodunit. Lemme guess, you probably think Dr. Tiller’s killer just had a thing against lab coats.

Ok, what would you like to see happen then ? Anyone who speaks out against abortion arrested, and or designated a terrorist ?

This guy is a terrorist. Now what ?

HEATHER CHILDERS: Politicizing a tragedy, Planned Parenthood blaming GOP rhetoric for the deadly shooting. And now Republican presidential candidates are firing back.

Well, that's rich. Apparently pointing out that there's a link between right wingers repeatedly accusing Planned Parenthood of selling "body parts" and a mad man ranting about "baby parts" after coincidentally carrying a long gun into a Planned Parenthood is just a bridge too far.

  • Ted Cruz Is Being Unfairly Criticized for his Post-Colorado Comments
    National Review ^ | November 30, 2015 | Charles C. W. Cooke
Ted Cruz is being slammed for comments he made in Iowa over the weekend. Here's RawStory with a typical characterization:

In a frantic effort to pin blame on the Planned Parenthood terror attack on Friday on anyone but the anti-choice right, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that Christian extremist Robert Louis Dear was "registered as an independent and a woman and transgendered leftist activist" at a press conference on Sunday.

The Texas Tribune reported on Cruz' attempt to distance his party and presidential campaign from the attack at a campaign stop in Newton, Iowa.

Sounds pretty bad. But did he really say that? I'm not so sure. Here's the Times:

Speaking to reporters in Newton, Iowa, Mr. Cruz said "we don't fully know the motivations of this deranged individual" in the shooting, which killed three people and wounded nine.

Mr. Cruz added, without prompting, that the suspected gunman, Robert L. Dear Jr., was "registered to vote as a woman." He suggested that there was "very little evidence" tying the shooting to anti-abortion sentiment, a cause frequently invoked by Mr. Cruz and his fellow Republicans in the presidential primary.

When a reporter cited news reports that Mr. Dear had said "no more baby parts" after he was apprehended, Mr. Cruz replied, "Well, it's also reported that he was registered as an independent and as a woman and a transgender leftist activist."

This construction was inartful, and, given how the media always reacts to such comments, it was naive. But I'm not convinced that it was "frantic" or that Cruz was "blaming" anybody. Cruz's team argues that their candidate was "not saying with certainty that the gunman was a 'transgender leftist activist,' but rather highlighting how little was known about him definitively." That rings true to me, especially given how keen Cruz was to label the murderer as "evil."

The Texas Tribune's reporting makes me even more skeptical:

"The media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point there's very little evidence to indicate that," Cruz said.

When a reporter reminded Cruz it has been reported Dear made a comment about "baby parts" while being apprehended, Cruz retorted, "It's also been reported that he was registered as an independent and a woman and a transgendered leftist activist. If that's what he is, I don't think it's fair to blame on the rhetoric on the left. This is a murderer."

Cruz's claim appeared to be based on a voter registration form that lists Dear's gender as female. "We know that he was a man who was registered to vote as a woman," Cruz said.

Asked if we could call the shooting an act of domestic terrorism - as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has - Cruz again urged caution about drawing conclusions from the shooting at this point.

"I would call it a murder, and we'll see what the facts are," Cruz replied. "It was a multiple murder of what appears to be a deranged individual. And it was horrific, it was evil, and we'll find out more out about the facts, but I don't think we should jump to conclusions."

"If that's what he is." "At this point." "We'll see what the facts are." "We'll find out more about the facts." "I don't think we should jump to conclusions." These are hardly the words of a man hoping to "pin" a crime on an innocent party. Inconvenient as it might be, we still don't actually know what happened in Colorado. What did we expect Cruz to say: "Boy, those pro-lifers are terrible, amirite"?

If there is a criticism to be made, it is that Cruz often comes across as a guy who is trying to impress the debate judges rather than to actually advance his message. That's a problem in a presidential candidate, sure. But it's a different problem than recklessness or dishonesty.

Frustrated Gunman Can’t Believe How Far He Has To Drive To Find Nearest Planned Parenthood Clinic

"AMARILLO, TX—Expressing frustration with the lack of convenient locations in his area, deranged gunman and anti-abortion fanatic Jared Broussard reported Monday that he could not believe how far he would have to drive to find the nearest Planned Parenthood clinic. “You have to be kidding me; I figured I’d need to go 10, maybe 15 miles, tops, but the closest one is almost 250 miles away,” said a visibly exasperated Broussard, adding that he would have to scrap his plans for the entire day and leave right now if he wanted to reach the health care provider before it closed this evening. “God, the nearest one isn’t even in this state. It’s actually faster for me to drive across the border to Santa Fe, and even then it’s still a four-hour trip. That barely leaves me enough time to buy ammo.” Broussard added that, given the length of the drive, he was thankful that he would likely not have to make a round trip."

Ted Cruz Lauds Anti-Abortion Extremist Eight Days Before Planned Parenthood Shooting
Source: Yahoo News

Presidential candidate and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who on Sunday suggested the shooter in a bloody Friday rampage on a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was a "transgender leftist activist," maintains ties to violent factions of the anti-abortion movement.

Right Wing Watch reports that just eight days before Robert L. Dear, 57, was arrested for killing three people and wounding nine others at the facility on Friday, Cruz bragged about an endorsement he received from the head of Christian pro-life organization Operation Rescue, Troy Newman.

In a statement on the senator's campaign website, Cruz said, "I am grateful to receive the endorsement of Troy Newman. He has served as a voice for the unborn for over 25 years, and works tirelessly every day for the pro-life cause. We need leaders like Troy Newman in this country who will stand up for those who do not have a voice."

But Newman has a history of openly endorsing violence against doctors and medical staff involved in providing abortion services

The media is reporting today that Ted Cruz has called the Planned Parenthood shooter a ‘transgender leftist’, but that’s not what he said at all. He was simply pointing to the fact that we don’t have enough information about the shooter to make a decision, and referenced our report that the shooter had been registered as a female on his voting record after the news reporter said it was reported that the shooter said ‘no more baby parts’. He wasn’t calling the shooter a transgender leftist, just saying there are reports suggesting it.Watch:Ted Cruz's Remark (Video)
