It's not just obama who's openly breaking laws. The mayors of every sanctuary city are doing so too.
Ted Cruz: If Kim Davis Gets Punished for Not Following the Law, Obama Should Be Too
sep 3 2015 Ted Cruz said today if people want Kim Davis to resign for not following the law, then President Obama ought to be held to the same standard.
Davis went to jail today after repeatedly refusing to issue marriage licenses in protest of the Supreme Court’s gay marriage ruling, even defying the high court’s rejection of her appeal.
And with all the calls for her to resign, Cruz asked, “Where is the call for President Obama to resign for ignoring and defying our immigration laws, our welfare reform laws, and even his own Obamacare?
Just an observation, and an answer to Ted Cruz's question would be this:
Just because someone else can break the law and get away with it doesn't mean we have to. We shouldn't follow Obama's example. Show everyone else that the law still does matter.
Putting her in jail was way over the top first of all.
Second of all and this is where I part ways with my "conservative" brethren:
You cannot cannot cite the First Amendment in order to violate the First Amendment.
Government "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion nor prohibit free exercise thereof."
You'll ask "but what about the latter half of that clause?" Well there's your problem. If they allowed this woman to refuse licenses based on her faith, that would be and is a blatant endorsement of religion. Therefore, as government complies with the "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" part, it nullifies the "nor prohibit the free exercise thereof" part.
You cannot claim your right to free exercise of religion in order to use your government position to endorse religion by refusing a service based on your religious beliefs. Its the law, whether you or I like it or not.
