Prosecutors in Documents Case Reject Trump’s Claims of Bias
The office of the special counsel, Jack Smith, pushed back on the former president’s assertions that his prosecution was motivated by animosity toward him in intelligence agencies.
One more response from the prosecution to Team Trump's incessant filings that seem to go nowhere.
"Some of Mr. Trump’s demands for discovery were so ambiguous “that it is difficult to decipher what they seek,” the prosecutors wrote, while others, they added, “reflect pure conjecture detached from the facts surrounding this prosecution.”" - It's a great line of reasoning, getting right to the heart of the matter in this particular case.
This is incredible:
They also accused Mr. Trump’s lawyers of seeking to “cast a cloud of suspicion over responsible actions by government officials diligently doing their jobs.”
“Put simply,” prosecutors wrote, “the government here confronted an extraordinary situation: a former president engaging in calculated and persistent obstruction of the collection of presidential records, which, as a matter of law, belong to the United States for the benefit of history and posterity, and, as a matter of fact, here included a trove of highly classified documents containing some of the nation’s most sensitive information.”
