Tariffs Based On Napkin Math

It has nothing to do with reciprocal tariffs.

This is insane
Napkin Math! :auiqs.jpg:

"We've seen this movie before"

"In 1975:
Laffer, wrote out his 'curve' on a napkin (so appropriate) during a dinner with Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld, of the Ford White House. WSJ's Jude Wanniski and Arthur former was a former chief economist at --- the Office of Management and Budget."

The Gettysburg Address was written on the back of an envelope.
No it was not.

even AI, when it hallucinates is smarter than you are :auiqs.jpg:

and now:

AI Overview

The claim that Abraham Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address on the back of an envelope is a popular myth; in reality, he carefully prepared the speech, with drafts and revisions, before delivering it at Gettysburg.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • The Myth: The idea that Lincoln scribbled the Gettysburg Address on the back of an envelope while traveling to Gettysburg is a common misconception.
  • Lincoln started working on his remarks shortly after the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863.
  • Several drafts of the speech exist, including one written in the White House and another refined the night before the dedication ceremony.

  • Lincoln spent time discussing the speech with associates and made revisions, demonstrating a careful and deliberate approach to preparing the address.

  • Existing Copies:
There are five original copies of the speech in existence, none of which are on envelopes or show the shaky handwriting one might expect from a train ride.

  • Lincoln's Approach:
Lincoln approached the task of writing the speech seriously, drawing on his thoughts about the war's just cause and making revisions before the delivery

Is this Huffpo too?

Again. The OP is full of actual economists who are AGHAST and this insanity

It’s not about whether or not it was actually written on a napkin

It’s about the fact that it’s based on bullshit and is going to do GREAT damage

What does it matter? Rather than 100% reciprocal tariffs, he decided to go roughly half. How he came up with that number is irrelevant.
Yeah. It matters

Of course the Following (you ) doesn’t care what damage he does… until it’s too late

The Gettysburg Address was written on the back of an envelope.
‘But the reciprocal tariffs turned out not to be based on actual levies imposed by other countries. Instead, they’re based on a formula made up by the White House ― and widely mocked by experts.

Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a conservative economist American Action Forum and former director of the Congressional Budget Office, called it “malpractice” in response to another conservative economist who called it “embarrassing.”’

Trump is often mocked by experts, and appropriately so.

And everything about the Trump regime is embarrassing.

Does the angry disappointed hypocritical left count DOGE's billion dollar examples of fraud and corruption in the federal government as "napkin math"?

I do my best thinking with napkins. :p

Sadly I'm not surprised that liberals attack anything that would give American businesses an even playing field. Their loyalty to foreign masters is disgraceful.

You want a carve-out for malt liquor?

That Trump voters don’t believe it matters is an example of the stupidity of voting for Trump.

It matters because Trump is jeopardizing the economy based on failed, discredited economic dogma.

You're just wrong about that. I'm concerned just like everyone else..I think he needs to use tariffs wisely, not this blanket stuff he's doing.

There are some countries that deserve tariffs.

Also, the tariffs can end tomorrow, if those countries just drop their tariffs
