Zone1 Synagogue visit

Imagine someone turned up to a gypsy camp and tried to dress like a gypsy, you might find it a little different then.
not at all except he is really trying to be offensive or something, if he does it because he "wants to be one of us" or likes us i would find it flattering and welcome him. That sounds reverse racist, to denie such a guy.

The thing is, it's very easy to think someone is being offensive by trying to copy. Some people call it "cultural appropriation".

i wear austrian clothes, and the austrians could attack me too, should they? if i wear lederhosen? or if i wear a cowboyhat and cowboyboots? thats ridicolous, and first world problem, its obvious also if someone is mocking someone by copying him, or if someone is sincere, you can usually figure that one out. if i visit a synagogue, and then i wear a kippa then its not offensive, i see putin, trump, and all those others with kippas in synagogues even. if i do it to ridicule them, or make fun of them, then its something else.

Well, you've basically assimilated into Austrian society. So, wearing Lederhosen is probably considered slightly normal for you. Wearing cowboy boots people might just laugh.

What's the difference between Austria, cowboys and Jews?

Well, one is a country, and a country can be made up of many types of people. Countries with high rates of diversity will probably not care so much. Countries with a high level of technology will probably not care either, because they've lost their traditions.

Cowboys were just a job, the whole set up has become a cultural thing in certain parts of the US but I'd say even within a community people will have different views on wearing cowboy clothes.

However religious people tend to get easily offended, especially those that have suffered persecution. Persecution makes communities tighter, more likely to see insult even if it's not intended.

And I don't disagree with what you're saying. I'm the sort of logical person who thinks that people shouldn't get annoyed at "cultural appropriation", however I also try and understand other people's points of view and I think if you, as not a Jew, might find issues dressing up as a Jew and going to a Synagogue.

Ok, if they are offended i would not do it. But some religions might even demand you comply to their rules when you visit their places, like in islam a woman does have to wear a headcover even if she is not a muslim. It depends on what type of religion they are, but if they are really offended, i will not do it.

Sure, so each community has their rules, and you abide by the rules, they also have their own sensibilities and you have to be careful of them. It can be a minefield. One of the reasons I try and avoid such places if they're not touristy. Like in India I tried to avoid temples because I didn't have a clue what was what.

True but just another example, my sister visited a hindu temple in indonesia bali, and she had to wear a dress complying with their religious rules, they are not offended because she wears that dress, they demand it

my sister is the one on the left without hat but with shades, on the right with hat but without shades is a friend of hers

Do Jews demand that you wear their clothes and stuff? No. So don't.

I will inform myself, i doubt some know it all here, are correct that jews are offended and such, no jew said anything.

People often don't say things, they're just waiting for you to do something to pounce.

What Jews have been insulted about.

In Taiwan a school said to kids "you can do some historical thing, choose from these topics" so the kids chose WW2 and dressed up as Nazis.

The Jews managed to get the principal fired for it. In Taiwan, which never saw the Nazis, it's not part of their history, nothing to do with Israel or the Jews.

You are stubborn, you dont know if jews are offended, if i wear a kippa in synagogue, i do admitt i dont know it either, but i said i will inform myself, and i said if they are indeed offended, i wont do it and accept the sensibilities and rules, you are still stubborn insisting you know it all and i "shouldnt". However i do have a david star and wore it occassionally and posted my pictures in jewish facebook groups. No one was ever offended contrary i received many likes.

How many people on this discussion made you think?

Probably just me.

So, I guess being stubborn is fine.

I believe the kippah is required -- both Jew and gentile.

Yes, a non-Jew can wear a kippah, and it is often seen as a sign of respect when attending Jewish ceremonies or synagogues. While it is not required, it is recommended in such contexts to show respect for the Jewish community.

Today I wrote the jewish community in Salzburg Austria I want to visit a Synagogue in Salzburg, Salzburg is comfortably reachable within one hour with train, vienna would be too far away. I wrote the jewish community in salzburg and they said i need a appointment because its only possible in the context of a guide tour, you cannot visit just like that everyday
If you have other questions about this, please feel free to ask.

Thank you,

I received a email from their office, they said public tour guides will be held again in 2025. I look forward, and im patient. I dont have any questions right now, i will see in 2025. They invited me to subscribe to their newsletter which i did to be up to date about the programme they hold.

That sounds racist of you like could be said about many other nations as well every nation in a war such as serbs russians americans or even you english

You cannot ignore your identity when things are going badly .
If you are happy to use a definition label, you must bear your part of collective responsibility .
If that means standing and shouting your opposition , so be it .
But even giving indirect and tacit support to this government who are practising genocide and apartheid is unforgivable .

Can be said about every "identity" but you say it only about jews, maybe a few others like romani gypsies, you often called me thieve, as in guilty by association, but you wouldnt say that about your german family or your english family. Is your german mother a nazi murder?
