I was clicking through the channels this morning looking at several of the Sunday morning news programs and caught two stories in particular that caught my eye:
- The first was Liz Cheney on NBC I think. She went on about how she was a conservative through and through and an unmitigated Republican, then she went on to say that her policies were in complete lock step with Kamala Harris'! She painted Harris as a stable and reliable world leader who might save us from the next world war, while painting Trump as something diabolical somewhere between Jeffrey Dahmer and Genghis Khan who sends love letters to and admires brutal and oppressive world leaders and cannot be trusted with the office again because he might try to take over the world if not actually start WWIII. I'm paraphrasing a bit, but that was the general tone of Cheney's discussion.
- The other story that caught my attention was House Speaker Johnson on CBS I think. As usual, the lady moderator was sharp and curt with him often interrupting him and not allowing him to finish. But he began talking about the hurricanes and FEMA saying what a slow start they had dealing with Helene that he would be looking into, and as the CBS anchor tried to excoriate him for Congress taking a month off, he pointed out that the day before Helene hit, congress allocated 20 billion to FEMA for the hurricanes and that to this date, FEMA had only committed TWO PERCENT of the money (about 200 million) to actually helping people, so that not only is there no need for Congress to come back to work on more money, but that their hands are tied anyway since they must first get official assessments of the state needs before committing to more funds! But he was talking about a potential total expenditure for cleanup and help for the hurricane-hit states totaling in the 100 billion dollar area.
