But the question that right wingers never ask is this: Why would Manafort, who was so deeply in debt to nasty Russian oligarchs that he was committing bank fraud on a massive basis to keep himself afloat, offer to work for the Trump campaign for free? He certainly couldn't afford to work for no pay, and any payoff for his services would only happen years down the road, and only if Trump were to be elected, which certainly didn't look very likely at the time Manafort offered his services.

To me, this is the first question I would be asking Manafort, and yet no one seems to bring up this topic with him. And you can wash, rinse and repeat with Carter Page as well, although Page wasn't financially beholding to the Russians like Manafort.
