So much that Stalin allegedly tried to have him killed.

"At the time, global Communism was still very much a growing threat, one Stalin wanted to continue to spread around the world under Soviet leadership.

He saw how much power and influence films and the stars in them held over large audiences. He saw it in Nazi German propaganda during the Second World War and he used it effectively himself to further his own personality cult.

So when he saw John Wayne's power as an virulent anti-Communist on the rise, he ordered the actor killed and then sent (allegedly) more than one hit squad to do the job. He saw the Duke as a threat to the spread of Communism around the world and especially in America."

Especially since tough guy John Wayne ducked service in WWII so he could make movies while other actors were actually fighting for their country

John got rid of the Commie assassins by offering a battle at the bar. All six passed out in their own vomit and Juan went to Jerry's for a bacon cheeseburger, then flew to Anchorage

Now days it would be Joe Biden sending Gestapo (FBI) hit men to kill any star who dared support America.

Ohhh look, Shitflinger is lying - must be a day ending in "Y"

Susan Collins tells that the section of the book "Mocking Jay" where Katniss was angered to be used in "propos" or propaganda films rather than fighting, only to be told that her contribution was far more valuable on film, was based on John Wayne and the decision to deny him military service.

John Wayne chose $$$$ over serving his country

Meanwhile real heroes like Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable flew combat missions

bull ! there is absolutely no doubt that you are a communist ! Patton would spit in your face !

John Wayne wrapped himself in the flag even though he refused to serve in WWII. He didn’t didnt want to risk his career. But he had no problem supporting the drafting of young men for a senseless Vietnam War

Jane Fonda risked her career to protest a senseless war that got 60,000 young men killed.

Fonda was more of a Patriot than Wayne

According to author Garry Wills’ 1998 book, “John Wayne’ America: the Politics of Celebrity,” the actor received a chorus of boos when he walked onto the USO stages in Australia and the Pacific Islands. Those audiences were filled with combat veterans. Wayne, in his mid-30s, was not one of them.
Being drafted or enlisting was going to have a serious impact on his rising star. Depending on how long the war lasted, Wayne reportedly worried he might be too old to be a leading man when he came home.

Nothing like a good John Wayne thread to bring the lunatards out of their hidey-holes. :auiqs.jpg:

John Wayne was exempted from military service due to his family status and his age. He was 34 at the time and had a wife and four kids to support. But he did in fact, provide a better service by boosting the morale of the soldiers through his influential and inspiring films. The quintessential hero that he used to play in his movies undoubtedly invigorated the spirits of the fighting men.

There was one occasion where he applied to join the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of CIA, according to US National Archives records.

Though Wayne got selected to the Field Photographic Unit, he never learned about his appointment. His acceptance letter from the OSS Commander, William J. Donovan, was mistakenly sent to his ex-wife who never told him about it.

Of course, you'll hardly ever see any of these leftists doing much to support the morale of American troops. Their history of hatred for the military is very well known.

Meanwhile, other prominent actors his age served their country.

I call BS that playing a soldier in the movies is better service than actually being one.

Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable saw actual combat while it was John Wayne who played the war hero

Stalin was misinformed. John Wayne played an HUAC investigator hunting down commies in Hawaii but the real John Wayne was no threat to communists or anybody else. As a matter of fact he dodged service in WW2 claiming sole support of his family and then dumped his wife.

John Wayne was not a hero. He portrayed a symbolic hero in films.

However, a symbolic hero is actually more of a threat to the enemies of those who created the hero, than a flesh-and-blood hero. A symbolic hero endures and has no failings .

It's not a coincidence that Stalin felt threatened by Wayne. The persons who created the Wayne persona intended him to be a threat.
