CNN Publishes Map of 'Hate Groups', Which Includes Christian Orgs

A CNN article that features the locations of so-called "hate groups" designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has some Christian organizations pushing back.

Family Research Council (FRC), Liberty Counsel and Pacific Justice Institute are among those included on the list.

Liberty Counsel fired back at CNN in a press release.

"CNN has published a fake news article… that recklessly lists pro-family organizations, including Liberty Counsel, as active "hate groups" throughout the nation," it reads.

Liberty Counsel also cited SPLC 's Mark Potok saying, "Our criteria for a 'hate group,' first of all, have nothing to do with criminality, or violence, or any kind of guess we're making about 'this group could be dangerous.' It's strictly ideological."...

Liberty Counsel pointed out that a man attacked FRC's headquarters after reading the SPLC's website, which designates it a hate group.

"Tuesday was the five-year anniversary of an attempt at mass murder by Floyd Lee Corkins II, who entered the lobby of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., "with the intent to kill as many employees as he was able,"" the Liberty Counsel press release reads. "Corkins confessed to the FBI that he had searched the SPLC's "Hate Map" and selected the Family Research Council as his victim."

Guess it wont be long until employers are firing members of Christian churches because leftists are ignorant dickheads.

They ARE hate groups. Some have always been hate groups. They brag about being domestic terrorists. (Until they're caught!)

Are you saying you needed the SPLC to tell you that?

While the SPLC's designations may be wrong, is there some reason that Christian groups should be exempt from the label of hate groups?

Side note: I very much dislike the overuse of the phrase "fake news." If the SPLC did publish the report and put those groups on their list, then the CNN article is not fake. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. :p

Are Christian groups incapable of being hate groups? :dunno:

Of course not. However, the Bible teaches against homosexuality, for example. If somebody preaches the scriptures, is that hate?

It's fake news CNN is disseminating. Any surprise there. They just changed the headline and published a disclaimer though. They also removed the list of groups they slavishly published.
Caught in the act again.

The specific groups (Family Research Council (FRC), Liberty Counsel and Pacific Justice Institute ) are not hate groups just because the SPLC disagrees with their agenda.

And unless a Christian group is way over the top hate, they should be protected under the First Amendment from any designation used by government agencies. So either the SPLC should revise its list to exempt these groups, or the FBI and other agencies that have used the SPLC's input should be required to not do so.

Why should Christian groups in particular be protected? That seems to imply that other groups do not deserve the same protection.

I still say it is not fake news. It is, instead, CNN reporting on the SPLC's opinion. Just because it may be a bad or wrong opinion does not make it fake. Fake news ought to be used to describe news stories about things that did not actually happen.

Religious groups cannot be targeted by the federal government or by states thanks to the expanded 14th.

Since the SPLC is a government reference group, they need to revise their list.

The SPLC targeting conservative social groups is not new, or news.

The SPLC is a hate site. It represents Democratic Party interests solely. It isn't some Big Giant Center, either, just some con artist with a secretary and a few staffers.

They still provide a link to the SPLC site's map showing all of their designated hate groups. :dunno:

Does listing a bunch of black separatist groups as hate groups conform with the usual stereotype of Democrat Party interests? I can understand the rest of the groupings.

Well they cant really have any credibility at all and not list some of these minority racist groups that are also anti-semitic.

Window dressing. Note the NAACP or the black Congressional Caucus aren't listed, nor CAIR or any other Islamo-terrorist front that donates to Democratic Party candidates, just for starters.
