I didn’t see the quote, but I can guess what point he was making: when you make “diversity” the first factor in deciding whom to hire rather than merit, you wonder if the person chosen was hired for his “diversity” rather than for being the best qualified.

It’s a reasonable question, given that two out of three blacks were admitted to prestigious colleges or grad programs because they were black - and would have been rejected if they were white. (I worked in admissions,)

That means that only one out of three blacks accepted would have gotten in even if they were white.

It is quite understandable, then, to wonder if the black applicant was among the majority who got accepted due to his skin color, on among the minority who were on the same competitive level as whites.

This is not racist. It is exolaining the damage of lowering standards to get a more diverse student body (or workplace). If there were no AA or DEI, one would know that the black pilot in the cockpit, or the doctor in the operating room, is every bit as qualified as a white.

Let’s talk diversity and qualifications to be a pilot or surgeon.

Noted surgeon and HHS Secretary Ben Carson came from a poor black family and received scholarships because of his race. Went on to excel as a Brain Surgeon

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas came from a poor black family and was given scholarships because of his race. He was selected to the Supreme Court because of his race to replace Thurgood Marshal the first black Justice.
