As a reminder for our historically inept liberal friends, it’s the Republican Party that was founded on freedom and opposed slavery and fought to abolish it. The Democratic Party, on the other hand, supported slavery and fought to expand it.
In 1865, the 13th Amendment passed with 100% Republican support and only 23% Democrat support in Congress.
The 14th Amendment, which gave citizenship to freed slaves, passed in 1868 with 94% Republican support and 0% Democrat support in congress.
The 15th Amendment, which gave freed slaves the right to vote, passed in 1870 with 100% Republican support and 0% Democrat support in Congress.
WHOA! We Know WHY Hillary Clinton Got the KKK Endorsement Now...
The Republican Party is consistently wrong on most of the issues.
The GOP’s 2016 presidential nominee is a bigot, advocating that American Muslims be ‘registered’ with the government and mosques ‘investigated.’
Republicans are hostile to the Constitution, its case law, and the rule of law – they seek to deny women their right to privacy, gay Americans their right to equal protection of the law, immigrants their right to due process of the law, and seek to enact undue burdens on African-Americans’ right to vote.
Republicans have nothing of value or merit to offer the American people; they have an unwarranted fear of change, diversity, and expressions of individual liberty.
The GOP has been misappropriated by social conservatives, fiscal extremists, libertarian reactionaries, and TPM nitwits.
Consequently, the better question is why the hell is anyone a Republican.
