This is about private companies pressuring Trump to force Venezuela to give them rights to drill oil, when and where they feel like doing it. That doesn't mean it would be tomorrow, or even 10 years from now.

The oil companies aren't producing at or even near capacity now. They will produce as much as maximizes their profits.

So this isn't about securing oil supply for global or national security. It's about gaining profit for private oil companies, who will then sell that oil to the highest bidder, whether it is the US or not.
