How can you prevent the spread of a deadly infectious disease on the honor system?

I went to Home Depot Monday and noticed that none of the employees were wearing masks anymore. Same thing yesterday in Walmart. Then I went outside and noticed that the "You must wear a mask to enter the store" has been replaced with "Fully vaccinated can enter without a mask".

So who checks to see if everyone without a mask is fully vaccinated? Is there a sensor on the door that goes off if someone cheats?

This just proves to me that this disease wasn't as much of a threat as they made it out to be. If it was a real pandemic you wouldn't have been allowed to go back to business as usual on the honor system. You wouldn't have had people rioting in the streets last year and this year without having them herded into isolation facilities to keep them from spreading the disease. You wouldn't have states opening up when their governors are caught slamming pizza with more than 6 of their friends in confined spaces...or the president changing mask and social distancing guidelines conveniently because he wants to change the subject from his horrible handling of the economy, the Southern Border, or because he's causing wars in the Middle-East.

The fact remains that most people can't be trusted to do the right thing. (Some more than others) You cannot leave an issue like this to the honor system because the disease is supposedly so deadly. I'm not advocating a vaccine pass or anything like that, but I am stating what should be obvious. Either everyone wears masks or nobody does unless they want to. A mask has never prevented anyone from catching COVID (just ask those who caught it). I just figure that if you know you are sick...wear a mask. If you're not sick....you shouldn't have to wear one. They've been doing it like this in every Asian country I've been to. If they have a cold or the flu many of them still go to work....but they wear a mask.

But it's Biden's way to try to help the residential construction market. Most residential homes are constructed by illegal immigrants. Between the pandemic/quarantines, supply chain interruptions, and the wall Trump was building there is a shortage of residential housing. Which is why prices skyrocketed.

Not enough cheap labor to go around. Only residents of the country could work on housing.
But soon with all the multi-family housing being built the shortage will be eased somewhat. (Most of those jobs are unavailable to illegal immigrants)

As mortgages and rental properties are allowed to kick out deadbeats things will loosen up even more...

Most of the immigrants actually want a chance at a vaccine. They aren't as worried about it as republicans are. And if you are sick you are not allowed to work. So they take the vaccine. Walmart still gives out the shots with minimal documentation. Just saying.

Ok...most labor used to construct houses is 1099 labor or contract labor...the general contractor only needs one SS number or tax ID number to put his expenses into.
The illegal immigrants all get paid cash but the one guy (usually Spanish speaking) pays all the taxes on his income at the highest tax rates and pays the illegal immigrants some of the rest. (Usually less than standard rates).
Gubberment is happy to have the tax dollars and the illegals are happy to have the job....Dr. Horton is happy to sell homes for discounted prices while showing investors a high profit margin.

About 40% of the residential single family homes are done by large contractors like Dr Horton.... about 60% are done by small, independent contractors....which actually use the bulk of available illegal immigrant labor. Without that cheap labor single family housing increases by about 50% in price.

And the historical low mortgage interest rates while people were saving money from not commuting to work and working at home is why single family housing became so popular. Getting some distance from a neighbor....more than a 5" wall could provide was likely just part of the matrix of reasons.

But a larger living space with a home office was the primary reason.

First you have to find a precinct sponsor/representative who will actually follow through and have a carefully drafted piece of legislation and then actually get it presented to the legislative branch....

And with all the money making such a thing not happen...they don't have a prayer.

It takes literally millions of dollars to get legislation passed everywhere else but California. There all you need is some sweat equity, some carefully crafted wording, and people will pass it.
Nobody pays attention to ads that say "proposition 68 is a boondoggle" and nothing else. Which I always found ridiculous and stupid and incredibly boring and uninformative.... But somebody paid money for those ads.

Mob rule causes chaos... like you have in California. No one centralized authority to make the hard choices to ensure everyone is treated fairly.
As it is now....the productive members of California society have begun to see that they are being treated unfairly... other states are offering incentives and have a higher standard of living....the accountants do the math and see that a move is perfectly affordable and feasible. Stable environment, good access to telecom, reasonably priced educated and talented workforce, lower taxes, and stable legislative environment...not hard to figure it out.

Micron just finished a billion dollar plant in Virginia...clear to the other side of the nation from silicon valley. Their headquarters are in Boise Idaho... NOT silicone valley. Hewlitt Packard isn't the powerhouse they once were...nor is IBM...nor TEXAS instruments.

Silicon valley ain't so full of silicon anymore. Fisherman's wharf doesn't have sourdough bread and seafood like it used to... because the fishing has changed. I can buy the same produce anywhere instead of going there.

And as far as Napa Valley wine? Why pay outrageous prices for second rate wine, get a DUI, and a headache.... especially when the truth is that they are buying grape juice to ferment...the grape Vines are for looks only anymore...they can't afford the labor to really harvest them for winemaking. Especially with the price of white oak casks or charred oak chips you use to flavor the stainless steel tanks the juice is fermented in.
Im sure that the dairies and cheese factories are gone... same thing with all the other things that once made California awesome.

When I was living there....we had better produce than we have here in TN. The price of beer was lower. You could go to college for $50 per semester in a Junior College. The primary costs was books....which is outrageous. $150 for a text book you only used once....and this was back in the 80s. But home construction was horrible. Contractors were a bunch of rip-off agents. We had a convection heater with no HVAC and our electric bill was still higher than it is here in TN. You couldn't water your yard. You might as well not have grass. Houses were stacked up on top of each other. Here in TN most houses have siding or brick. CA houses are made of Stucco which would never stand up to the weather here.
Southern CA weather in San Diego was the best....but when you have to put bars on your windows and doors to keep down the breakins.....I was glad to leave. Nevermind the fact that I couldn't find a decent paying job anywhere.
