Hollywood put his rolls as brash, tough, cowboy or army dude.
The guy was probably the biggest hedonist queer in hollywood.

No wonder ya never heard him say, "battle stations."

It is not nice to belittle Hollywood actors who are in the closet.

Even today in 2020, most closeted gays are afraid (quite rightly) that their careers would be in jeopardy if their private lives were known.

I have to admit: If I knew that an actor was gay (not bi-sexual), and I saw him in a steamy scene with an actress, I would guffaw.

Similarly, if I knew an actor's political stance and I disagreed with his stance, I would have less respect for him. E.g., I was shocked this week to learn that a favorite TV actor of mine called for Trump supporters to catch the coronavirus. I was shocked and disgusted by his statement.

An actor's sexuality or political stance should be unknown to us fans.

Tryon WAS a damn good writer. The Other and Harvest Home are two of the best creepy horror novels ever written. If you're into horror fiction, give these a read.
