License is due for renewal in a couple weeks and I need my real ID to fly.
Had to visit the county government center and show my license to get my missing birth certificate.
Need the birth certificate to get my new real ID license.

Really stupid in a country that has millions of "undocumented" that citizens have to prove who they are to the government with government documents that they issued to us already.
Another layer in the onion of big government waste.


Was worse for my wife who had to provide papers for two name changes and a previous divorce.

Latest I saw is only 37% of Americans have got it so far.

That is exactly what I expect.

Last time at the DMV I was forced to wait behind a frustrated person who didn't have exactly the required documentation and was told to come back after already waiting 45 minutes.
The whole thing is stupid.
The government already knows who I am through the money it confiscated out of my paycheck.

I had to renew my DL last year. I went into the DMV, and after waiting in line, was asked for my birth certificate or passport. I was told to go to the next table to schedule an appointment for when I could come back with one of those items. I only wanted a new picture, because my 12 year old one showed my fat face from when I was biggly.

I went home and renewed it online. Fat face be damned along with the USA of fascism.

I did mine last year, or the year before. I just remember it was a pain in the ass. So if you're flying soon and you don't have it start the process ASAP.

The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005, but implementation has been delayed multiple times. The REAL ID enforcement deadline is May 7, 2025.

Yeah, considering that one third of the country hasn't bothered.

Women have been the most inconvenienced by it if divorced or those with name changes. Looks pretty simple in my case.

But of course, just another fee to add to the endless fees that government slips in.

I'm not Jewish but I recoil from any .gov edict that requires a star for ID.

But with the deadline this close and really not a word about another extension, and I need my license renewal anyway, might as well get it.

You do know that you really don't have to get it don't you?

You just won't be allowed to fly or enter a nuclear facility or some Federal offices.

You are still free to land travel the United States with just a regular license or ID which my state still offers.
