So far this January is shaping up to be the 5th coldest one on record... Or close to it

Today, we're 1ºC over the 20th Century average ... global warming ... so what? ... why should we care, this is a trivial amount and it's not expected to increase more than another ... single ... degree ... (c.f. IPCC AR5 1WC Fig 12-5 and associated text) ...

Hysteria for Hysteria's sake ...

The atmosphere is a fluid ... it behaves as a fluid ... we apply N/S at all times and in all places ... including the stratospheric polar vortex ... that's everybody's position ... why would you work with each individual molecule? ...

Maybe you have a link to this new theorem? ... sounds like the same mistake ... the amount of enthalpy is immaterial to weather ... we only care about changing enthalpy, which requires power ... no power produces powerless weather ... we tend to only care about powerful events, lots and lots of changing enthalpy ...

An expanded polar vortex means more moderate weather, and lower amplitude Rossby waves ... the opposite of what we're seeing ... sounds like this new theory is the opposite of established science ... but I'll read your link ...

Excellent ... I will endeavor to find the link It's something I read a few months back pertaining to the expansion of the vortex based on greater heat retention per unit volume.

But I'm satisfied with your explanation because it takes in more than just one narrow field of science which makes sense if you're dealing with anything on a global scale.

That's always been my problem with the warming alanists.... They ignore every other field of science and how it might interact with the data that they are presenting. Very specifically they ignore astronomy.

Now I have a Glacier for sale that would like to talk to you about.😁

Now the debate here is whether or not that's because the polar vortex has loosened up and spread south due to warming. But that might might not actually hold water.

The real question is can we continue to have record lows and still claim that we are warming?

It will be whatever it will be. But yes it has been cold here. River had ice on it last week and I have never seen that before although I understand 100 years ago people use to iceskate on it in winter. Last spring, however, was very warm for these parts. 90's came early. gave me a bumper crop of peaches.

Warm pacific water is heading north and the vortex will be released come Monday!!!!! Again proving that the oceans control climate and the temperature.

Atmospheric Science is considered a "multi-disciplinary" science ... starting with basic physics and fluid mechanics ... the main thing almost everybody gets wrong is the thermodynamics ... if we follow the energy, or enthalpy if you wish, it's easy to see why catastrophic claims are complete fictions ... it's just a little bit of warming and a little bit of extra rain ... maybe we can measure this in fifty years or so ... long past our funerals ...

Another big mistake is putting effect before cause ... like the polar vortex ... for the cause of the polar front sagging across a land mass, we have the effect of the polar vortex spining down a bit ... not the other way around ...

Climate became a major problem for all citizens when it was taken over by politicians. They managed to ruin the science.

I've never seen such a warm winter in central Russia though. No snow, rain all day long and the winter is half way through.

Is winter 2024 going to be cold in Europe?

Winter 2024/2025 is predicted to see colder-than-average temperatures, particularly during the core winter months of December to February. The presence of a weaker-than-normal Polar Vortex could exacerbate these cold conditions.

I swear, what is it with people who think the world is supposed to be ice?

I can only say for our part of Europe and that is the Russian one. We still hope that there will be a winter but so far it has the lousiest that I've ever seen, meaning the warmest ever.

It is much easier for Putin to wage war against nations when weather is decent.

There has been a bunch of scumbags so far, what do you call nations? Uks?
Let me ask you this. Suppose Ukraine did to Russia what Russia did to Ukraine. Say Ukraine sent it's military to invade Russia and bomb your cities. Would you appreciate that? Do you like that Ukraine now must fight inside of Russia thanks to Putin invading Ukraine?

That’s bad? Why?

No. Normally my peaches get hit by a late blast of frost when they are blooming that kills my harvest numbers. This year it didn't happen and got so hot so early, my trees were so loaded down with them I thought limbs were going to be snapping off. Never had that many before by a long shot. We still have a ton in freezer. I didn't know what else to do with them but didn't want them all to go to waste.
