You're leaving out the part about the FBI "warning" the MSM that the laptop story was fake. It's pretty obvious what the motivation was there. Regardless of media biases, the most culpable party in this is the government itself, but there's a long history of our government using the media as its propaganda wing. It even does this to conservative media like Fox News, since every "democratic" regime likes to have controlled opposition.
