Prices on imported goods rise. Consumers must pay more for imports and foreign travelers may need to scale back a vacation because it is more expensive when the dollar is weak. However, a weak dollar also means our exports are more competitive in the global market, perhaps saving U.S. jobs in the process.Mar 21, 2017

Strong Dollar vs. Weak Dollar: What Does it Mean?

Thoughts?

I told the ***** before the good and bad of a weak dollar, just typical of a liberal to forget everything that was said. No wonder their politicians get voted in time after time , even when people like Pen get fucked over and over..

A weaker dollar means companies pay less to Americans for work. Why do you think Nike and others use Chinese sweatshops? Because the Yuan is worth nothing.

If you're making $15 an hour, that's $15 an hour whether the dollar is weak or strong.

Sure, if you don’t care about its worth relative to costs of products or services

I accept your admission of error.

Yes, but a dollar with weak buying power, sucks.

Mnuchin comment surprises financial markets, turns dollar decline into 'one-way bet'
  • The dollar, already on a spiral lower, sank to a three-year low after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said a weaker dollar was good for U.S. trade.
  • The comments depart from the strong dollar policy of Treasury secretaries before him, going back to Robert Rubin in the Clinton administration, but fit with the Trump administration's "America first" message.
  • The weak dollar policy could backfire and make U.S. assets like Treasurys less appealing, and drive up the costs of foreign goods for businesses and everyday Americans.
  • "They basically open this up as a one-way bet for traders, and traders will keep pushing it and keep pushing it," said one strategist.

I wonder if Trump’s economic plan is to devalue the dollar and American labor until we’re competing with 3rd world wages

Yep - he wants to make America Turkey, Russia or the Philippines at the earliest opportunity. Eliminate the free press, create a society of ruling class oligarchs, and anoint himself Emperor for life.
