Since we're talking about adding states. Why not merge some of the unpopulated ones?

1. I think The Dakota's should be merged into one state. It is almost a joke that they get 2 senators a piece as they only have 700k and 1.1k. I'd like to go further and merge them with Minnosota to increase the population even more.
2. I'd also merge Wy with Idaho and maybe even Mt. Imagine Wy, Idaho and Mt being one state. It would only have like ~3.5 million people( 2 million for idaho, 1.1 million for mt and 600k for Wy.) or around the population of Oregon.
3. I'd like to merge Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri into one.
4. Oh, republicans. You could also argue that road island could be merged with Delware, and New jersey.
5. The Virginia's could be merged back into one.
6. The Caralina's into one.
7. I'd like to see Ok and Ark merged.
8. I think we should allow Puerto rico as a state but with the US virgin islands.
9. I think California and Texas should be cut in half. San fransico being the capital of the north. In fact the border would be just south of San fransico. Texas could be cut in half or thirds. One could be the southern third that is nearly 80-90% hispanic. Which would give more power to them.

I'd like to do this to make the senate more equal. I think states need to have more like 4-6 million people. I'd also argue that florida, New york and Pa could possibly be turned into two states to meet this goal. Maybe New york and long island could be one state...All while upstate new york could be another. Hint. Red state!

There's a limit to each congressional district. Why not form states around what would be needed for two senators? This would make it more fair.

Maybe 2.5 million per senator? So each state would need like 5 million people.

I guess dumb ideas should be heard too.

What would be better is to go back to selecting senators they they were selected by gen the U.S. constitution was ratified.

They were selected by the state legislature to represent the interests of each state’s legislature. The House of Representatives represents the people.

Then you could make NYC a state, and have 3 senators, LA could have their own, as could Chicago and Houston.

I think we can spilt CA into 4 states, same with NY

So you're ok with Texas and Florida only getting 2 senators. While states like the Dakota's, have 1/16th the population get 4. Talk about dumb.
Not dumb at all. It is the wisdom of the Founders to ensure that states like California and Texas with large populations will have more influence and votes in Congress than do the least populated states, but the least populated states will have a voice and vote and won't be ignored or shortchanged by their government.

It helps prevent a tyranny of a majority which is as destructive as a tyranny of a small oligarchy.

It is amazing to me how some cannot understand that and can see no problem with a few large population centers having all the power over everybody else.

The senate was never intended to be based on population.

Since we took the 'popular vote' away from Dems they have been seriously discombobulated trying to come up with talking points and ways to RIG elections.
by a fraction of a percentage point? :auiqs.jpg:

and there is no "we" there

"There are people out there in America who identify so much with a political or social movement, they think that they personally are the movement. These people willingly sow incivility, bitter discord, disharmony, and celebrate the paralysis of the national will."
