Problem(one of many) I see with socialism is that it expects/requires everyone to operate altruistically when most of humanity isn't quite capable of such. Between personal greed and envy, and the distribution of skills, too many can barely function to honestly support themselves, let alone produce excess for those less able.

Those who are able to produce the excess that supports the less abled, have few to none of incentives toward such. Even when forced by whip & gun, they will not give the full measure they are capable of when it is carrot rather than stick in the equation.

From each according to the least they can do to get by ....
To each according to what they want but won't work for ....
