My initial thought is this: to qualify as a tax-deductible non-profit institution salaries of their executives shouldn't be excessive. Although it is one of those things where my present opinion isn't inflexible.

I use different middle initials in my name when buying a subscription or donating money. That way, when I get junk mail from some other organization, I know immediately who sold my name to them. After stepping away and a bit of consideration I'm leaning towards an alternative having requirement that on any donation form, on-line or written, the non-profit be required to (1) present what percent actually goes towards the cause, and (2) present whether the charity sells your information.
There are websites I reference to check the percentage. The selling information part is more troublesome to research. I get calendars and notepads with solicitations from non-profits organizations which I never have donated. And the oh-so-many return address labels, despite that I can't recall my last need since the only thing I snail-mail these days is my vote-by-mail ballot.
